alison: breaking news tonight where it wmata is confirming several metro employees were arrested accused of smart trip fraud. roz plater is live in d.c. what is going on with this one? roz: a sophisticated scheme to make money using plastic smart trip cards. we are told this involved seven station managers and two metro custodians. this was detected last year and happened all over the system. they targeted passengers who didn't have enough on the paper car to exit the station. they would turn it over to the station managers or the metro workers and the riders would be allowed to exit through the emergency gate. that he would load remaining money from paper card to smart trip card and sell it at a discount price. metro said this was not a big ring as far as the fraud goes. the employees were arrest and have been terminated. they face misdemeanor fraud charges. some are still awaiting their day in court. i'm roz plater abc7 news. leon: a new report gives upclose look at driverless cars. you won't believe how often people had to take the driver's seat and take the wheel. alison: why a calen

the new wmata gm also given an assessment of all the problems he's become aware of since taking this job about six weeks ago. he says he spent the month of december talking with riders and hearing their frustrations from everything from malfunctioning escalators and elevators to train and rail problems, delays and public safety concerns. he says employees are embarrassed the system isn't performing well and he feels that too. >> there is a feeling of a lack of ability to deliver the basic service that we should be delivering. poor communication. a lock of transparency by the organization. and unfortunately, and as mentioned earlier, there's a fear out there for personal safety, in terms of some of the stuff that we do. but in terms of crime, in terms of terrorism. all those things are on our customers' minds. the bottom line is, you know, i think as an agency waive lost credibility to provide the high quality service that we are used to in the past. >> reporter: he says he does believe he could get the be leaguered transit system to a better place. he wants more visibility on platfor
