we've slowed it down so you can see a wobble to the west. a wobble to the east.to the north and east. those wobbles at this point may be the difference between what could be a catastrophic hit to places like san juan and a major hurricane. now it doesn't sound like a lot of difference when you talk about it verbally. but the difference may be significant based on where on this rotation we see this storm hitting san juan. so we continue to watch that. it would take a miracle for there to be anything less than significant major life-threatening impact to san juan in the surrounding areas. but we have seen this time and time again where wobbles can make a big difference. let's talk about the heaviest rainfall over the mountains at this point and again, upwards of 25 inches. when you add that to wind speeds of 150 miles per hour you have got the worst of all scenarios. because you have got the issue of wind speeds, which are going to cause major damage and debris. flooding of course from high waves and beech erosion and of course the possibility of flooding which com

if there's some imperfection, you see it wobble around.ves us some potential of this storm seeing maybe a little bit of weakening. it is such a well-organized storm that even if it weakens a little, quite a bit, it might remain a category five or best case to a category four. here's what we're looking at with significant storm surge. as much as two stories high in some areas that have very little elevation to work with. the scenes playing out across some of the islands like barbuda could play out, back toward turks and caicos. look at the region. when you go for a closer look, there's the center of the storm later today. there we go. some 40 islands dotting the region that are essentially coral islands sitting right at sea level. some of the beaches, you could walk out 40 to 50 feet in ankle-deep water. that's how shallow the limestone area and crest here is off the region. here we go. notice we think the storm will begin to push in toward cuba -- toward cuba as indicated. beyond that is where some discrepancy enters. some of the models no

a wobble to the west, what does that heen mean in practical terms? >> we've got 36 hours and it could wobble again. don't look at the center. take a look at the cone of uncertainty. it is still a category 4 but just baerely a 4, under a 5. 155-mile-per-hour winds. it's slowed down now moving west at 12 miles per hour. look at what happens just before landfall right around the keys. it briefly becomes a category 5 storm again, then comes on shore during the day. this is going to take all day and on through monday to clear the state of florida. it will be on the ground for a long time causing a lot of damage. and a lot of that damage coming from the storm surge. we're talking about on top of what's already there, all that wind and rain being pushed on shore upwards of a foot of -- 12 feet of storm surge in southwestern florida, 5 to 10 feet here in the eastern part of florida, 3 to 5 feet as you get up to tampa bay. and the bad news is that this storm surge will be coming in just about high tide sunday at noon because it slowed down. so this could real

it's the wobbles. does this wobble into one of these areas and hit one of the areas at a category 4. >> how much of this is actual real world changes or how much of it is the difficulty in the model? >> this is typical with storm systems like this. the model can't totally handle the die naynamics going on at p here. that's why we're launching air balloons every six hours. we're trying to put as much data and new information, that's why we're sending the aircraft out there to sample this because this is a monster storm. a lot of times they tend to pilot themselves more than what the computer models allow in their outcomes. steve, thanks always for the expertise d context. >> we go back down to jack soboro soboroff. what are you seeing? >> we did see a couple of big gusts of wind. i've been watching the forecast just like you guys have and to say that we could see 95, 98 mile-an-hour wind gusting here in naples tomorrow around 2 p.m. is an extraordinary thing to think about. but those two words that have

the storm could wobble. even if the storm doesn't wobble, there's going to be hurricane force winds here almost for sure in the miami area. and storm surge as well, anderson. maybe not the 10 to 15 feet they're fearing where you are on the west coast, which sounds terrifying, but 3 feet, maybe up to 6 feet in some areas. in particular concern you can see behind me right now there's the causeway. there's a bridge out to miami beach. miami beach is particularly low lying. it's one of these barrier islands, mandatory evacuations over that whole island. that has been a cause of particular concern now. the entire run up to hurricane irma making impact. our kyung lah is out on miami beach, one of the few people, hopefully, still out on miami beach. kyung, what are you seeing out there? >> well, we're seeing the same sort of winds out here. sustained winds now. and we're just starting to hear from the miami beach fire department that they're responding to some calls. calls of fallen trees, trying to get to some of

they kind of wobble as they rotate on in. the center getting right here towards the coastal areas are towards the keys. the worst of the storm surge will move over there very shortly. the radar picture shows the worst of it and to the south from right at the north of the alley anywhere to the south. right there, and that is the outer eye wall and here are the keys, see and not moving him within the next hour or so. it's going to take a while to get over it. we will be seen as this moves then come in to key west pushing 133. miami getting towards hurricane force towards this afternoon. hurricane forces on the key is pushing 100 miles an hour in fort myers and naples by 5:00 tonight, still 110 miles an hour. once the storm moves the storm is thin, very important to note. a lot of areas basically at sea level, maybe a couple feet above it. some of our forecast storm surge going miles and land here. that is very dependent on exactly the issue where you are. one foot down, four to five feet higher will change where you are. storm
