i'm wolf blitzer reporting from washington.r is optimistic as the search for malaysian airlines flight 370 moves into day 36. prime minister tony abbott says officials are very confident, his words, very confident, the signals that have been detected are, indeed, from the plane's two black boxes. he says the challenge is to get as much information as possible before the signals end. investigators say a fifth ping is probably not from the plane. it was picked up thursday by a device dropped in the ocean from an airline before earlier signals were detected by a u.s. pinger locator towed by an australian ship. there's been no letup in the search for debris from the plane. looking at the surface, 13 ships, 15 aircraft, they're assigned to today's search. more now on what australia's prime minister is saying about the search. he spoke earlier today in shanghai. >> we have very much narrowed down the search area. we're very confident that the signals we're detecting are from the black box on 370. i really don't want to say anymore th

i'm wolf blitzer reporting from washington.ent six weeks ago when malaysia airlines flight 370 disappeared. here are the latest developments as far as the search is concerned. the bluefin-21 underwater drone is scouring the ocean floor now for a fifth time. first floor searches turned up no debris or wreckage from the missing plane. the search above the water continued today with as many as 11 planes and 12 ships involved. in beijing, relatives of those on board the plane held a prayer vigil. they're demanding answers to more than two dozen questions when they meet with malaysian officials next week. we're heading into day 43 with no sign of the missing plane. now officials are talking about bringing in more underwater drones, even widening the search area. let's get some perspective from our experts. peter goles is with the ntsb. tom fuentes is a former fbi assistant director. it's the fifth mission right now, peter. is it time for more underwater drones? >> if they're starting to get nervous, i think it probably is. if they'r

i'm wolf blitzer. you're in "the situation room." >> there's now a major turn in the search. here's the latest developments. the search is now going underwater. an australian vessel is towing an american pinger locator looking for the black box signals thousands of feet below the surface. a british ship is using the device in the same area. without knowing where to listen, it's a big roll of the dice and there's another huge problem. the batteries powering the black box pingers are due to run out in a few days but the manufacturer tells cnn those batteries were never returned for maintenance and they actually may already be dead. aircraft are getting ready for another day of searching. if they can spot the debris, they can narrow the search for the airliner recordings. we have our analysts and reporters standing by in the united states and around the world with the kind of special coverage that only cnn can deliver. let's go to perth, australia, to kyung lah. she's got the latest on the search. kyung?
