something i will never forget. >> wolf blitzer joining us now from washington. ly knew all about auschwitz, you talked about it with your parents as you said they were very open. but i think even you were surprised by how much the experience really affected you while you were there. what really touched you the most? >> you know it was so shocking just to walk around. auschwitz itself the barracks there, the various facilities but birkenau the adjacent camp that was really huge. it was much bigger. all of the gas chambers that's where the cattle cars came in where jews were brought in from various parts of europe and they spent several days on a cattle car, they got off. some people were told to go to the right, that means they were going right to these gas chambers. some people were told to go to the left. that means they would be working or becoming slave laborers at least for a short period. some of whom i interview in the documentary that will air later tonight, a woman named eva who was only 10 years old, she was brought in from hungary in one of these cattle

i'm wolf blitzer reporting from washington.ince saturday more than two dozen bomb threats have been posted on twitter and other social media have forced airlines here in the united states to divert, evacuate or cancel flights. the threats began saturday when military f-16 fighter jets were scrambled to escort two flights bound for atlanta. the number of threats keep growing. 17 were posted yesterday alone. rene marsh is joining us now from new york. the fbi has gotten involved in tracking down these threats. the fbi and faa have to take them seriously. what's going on here? >> reporter: absolutely right. no one wants to take a risk. so far all these threats have been unfounded but in the climate we're in in this day and age, law enforcement, airlines no one wants to take the risk. just last night, there was another threat via twitter, bomb threat in which san francisco fbi as well as four delta planes, they were threatened. i spoke with a u.s. official today and this official admits that there is indeed a spike in the number of

[ gunshots ] >>> the breaking news france is now on its highest security alert after gunmen attacked the paris office of a satirical magazine killing 12 people and wounding 11 triggering a massive man hunt. among the dead the editor and cartoonist of the publication, charlie hebdo which had drawn threats from jihadists for for ridiculing islamic extremism. three suspects have now been identified including two shooters who called out names of their victims as they killed them. president obama has pledged all possible help to france in investigating what he characterizes as an attack on freed am but the carefully orchestrated attack has sparked deep concern here in the united states. in new york security has been stepped up at very sensitive sites including the french consulate in manhattan. congressman mike mccall and peter king are both standing by from the homeland security committee

i'm wolf blitzer. you're in "the situation room." let's get right to the breaking news. tens of thousands of police are combing cities towns, and rural areas. they're hunting for the suspects in the massacre at magazine office in paris, the dragnet focusing in on villages north of paris where roadblocks have now been set up and helicopters are hovering overhead. there are also new details about the wanted men. cherif and said kouachi. france has told the united states one of the brothers received weapons training with al qaeda's affiliate in yemen. and we're also learning both suspects were on the u.s. terror watch list. as france unites in defiance of the slaughter of the offices of the satirical magazine there are also new fears tonight after today's killing of a female police officer in a southern suburb of paris. officials have not directly linked that to the earlier massacre although they are calling it another terror attack. congressman ed rice is here standing by live with our correspondents ana
