wong. rose -- claudine wong. rosemary, i know you said the viewers said why did it have to be today, but here is rain is. >> and it's going to continue. we're in a bit of a braying right now. some of us waking up with mostly sunny skies. get outdoors, hide the eggs, although chances are the grass is a little soggy this morning. continuing to watch a cell over near and around sonoma. light rainfalling outside your door right now, in and around american canyon as well as vallejo. a little light rain. this system, the center of the storm still off shore. we have been tracking it since thursday. it's still a couple hundred miles out. it's going to slide over california later today, and into tonight. that's going to bring very unstable weather. so we're looking at the possibility of scattered showers and thunderstorms. i'm going to line up your future forecast to show you what you can expect hour by hour in just a few moments. >> well, new details on the shooting of an alameda county sheriff's deputy in oakland this morning. we have exclusive video of the police response. ktvu was actually on a ride- along with a sergeant when the call for help came over the radio. >> shots fired. shots fired. shots fired. >> where? where? >> our crew shot this exclusive video as deputies sped to the seen at 33rd avenue and san leandro street around 9:40. >> who got hit? tell me who got hit. >> we have medical enroute. set up the perimeter. >> this is what it looked like when they arrived. you can see the chaos as investigators tried to piece together what happened. officials say the gun fire broke out as deputies tried to rest a driver. a deputy was shot in the foot. >> go with him. >> hey, hey, where is evans? where's evans? >> there is that injured deputy as he was loaded into the ambulance to be taken to the hospital. you can see him being held by his fellow officers. officials say things could have been a lot worse for that officer, because when he started shooting at that suspect he was being dragged by the suspect's car. >> that's when things went sideways. as they were in the car trying to get him out he put the car in drive, and took off going down the street. dragging one of the deputies with him. >> the injured deputy is expected to be ok. however the suspect died overnight. deputies tell us they did find a gun in the s.u.v. >>> pope francis led his first easter sunday mass in st. peter's square this morning. [ singing ] >> the vatican said around 250,000 people gathered at the traditional open air mass for the new pope's first easter address. the pope used the occasion to call for a diplomatic solution to intentions around the world. >> peace for the middle east. and particularly, between israelis and palestinians. >> pope francis also prayed for a resolution in north korea, and for an end to the civil war in syria. the pope also headed out into the large crowd in his popemobile and greeted people and kissed the heads of children as onlookers cheered. >>> right now an easter morning tradition is under way in san francisco. people are congregating on the city's highest peak for the 91st annual sunrise service at mount davidson cross. the cross is 103 feet tall. people make their way to this service each area because it offers something different than any other in the city. >> the location, i think, is -- it's an awesome spot. it's beautiful point to see the view of the city at these hours. where a lot of people don't just get to see this kind of lighting. >> and this year's easter message to the city is being given by reverend dr. joseph bryant, jr. he is the senior pastor at calvary hill community church. >>> happening now, another easter meal is being served at the homeless at glad memorial church in san francisco. lorraine blanco is live at the church covering that holiday tradition. good morning, lorraine. >> reporter: good morning, lorraine. this church will feed close to 1000 people this morning. for many this is the only meal they'll get all holiday weekend. we've stood here in front of the church and seen a constant stream of people coming in these doors for a warm, free easter brunch. this breakfast is an annual event here at glide. it follows their sunrise service. later this morning they'll serve an easter dinner with their famous fried chicken. the reverend tells us it's not just about the comfort food. it's also about the comfort thousands get in knowing someone cares. >> a woman just came in this morning and said her brother died this morning. and she came to glide, because she needed to have some solace, some sense of community, some sense of people who care. that's what easter is important to do for all of us. it lifts us up. >> reporter: the easter dinner starts at 11 a.m. and goes until 1:30. glide expects to serve about 2000 might find the rain outside this morning but that is not going to stop hundreds from attending the annual easter parade in san francisco. that parade is set to go on at 2:00 this afternoon, rain or shine. and it's going to take place on union street between golf and filmore. now, before the big parade, there is a street fair taking place with activities for the whole family, and that starts in the weather could impact your easter sunday >> and we could see that active weather return especially for this afternoon. a nice break in the rain. sunshine out there in many cases. but many nopes the sunshine helps to aid thunderstorms into the afternoon when that unstable weather will be rolling through the area. a look at storm tracker 2, watching a line of &8cewflight near sonoma, along napa road. this has been the last five to 10 minutes. we have light rain falling over you and from american canyon, down into vallejo, crossing 780, maybe a few sprinkles here. outside of that, partly cloudy skies, mostly sunny in some areas, but this is where the coolest, most unstable air lies. and it's going to be shifting over california, as we get into the afternoon and evening hours. right now it's about 200 miles off shore. when that happens, in addition to the mix of the sunshine, the clouds, the afternoon warming at the surface, that warm air at the surface, the very cool air and unstable air aloft will collide and thunderstorms, so definitely a possibility. i want to run you through the forecast. doesn't look like we'll see a whole lot of rain. we're not looking at a complete washout. you will have an opportunity to get outdoors and enjoy the easter festivities. 10:00, we're still mainly dry. maybe a few sprinkles around the north bay, along the coastline we're socked in by clouds here. maybe a little bit of driesal and light to scattered showers falling as well. into the afternoon, maybe an easter brunch. we're still mainly dry. the pop-up showers and the possibility of thunderstorms i think we will actually have to keep an eye on for the afternoon. so, the forecast model may not be picking up on that at the moment, but just beware if you're getting outdoors, we have an active pattern that continues for your easter sunday. a mix of sun and clouds and a few sprinkles this morning. a few spotty showers for the lunch hour and for the afternoon, the possibility of lightning, thunder, hail, brief downpours. just be careful, especially watch the little ones. they can develop fast if you're going to be outdoors enjoying maybe even a picnic. widespread 50s this morning, and a lot like yesterday, a tad cooler for the second half of today. we'll shave off a few degrees from what we felt yesterday. into monday morning, a few lingering showers as the storm continues to exit east. but by the afternoon we're partly cloudy, we're try, we have fair skies and fair weather. tuesday, wednesday, and then as we get into thursday, we have more rain coming our way. back to the desk. >>> suspected drunk driver ran into an alameda county sheriff's deputy early this morning. it happened around 10:15 when many deputies were on the way to the hospital to support another deputy injured in a shooting minutes earlier. the driver smashed into the side of that patrol car on international boulevard. he was arrested on suspicion of d.u.i. and the deputy was not hurt. >>>in overnight news, the highway patrol is trying to figure out what led up to a mysterious car fire off highway 24. we have video for you there. look at that. those flames shooting out of the car. when our crew arrived at the claremont avenue off-ramp in oakland around 3 this morning, the car had accident damage in the front and back but that driver nowhere to be found. the chp believes whoever was driving lost control, hit a guard rail, tried to get off the highway and ran away when the car caught fire >>> starting tomorrow, people in three bay area counties will have to pay some of the highest sales taxing in the state. san mateo county, the sales tax rate goes up to 9%. santa clara county residents will have to pay 8.75% and marin county sales tax will bump up to 8.5%. 24 cities will also see increases, including al company, where people will -- albany, where people will have to pay 9.5%. these new increase are in addition to the proposition 30 statewide sales tax finding any survivors in a massive mudslide which buried 83 gold mine workers. the landslide happened friday near tibet. searchers have already recovered 11 bodies and are searching for more this morning. efforts have been hampered by snow which started to fall yesterday. authorities say their chances of finding anyone alive are slim. >>> the white house says it's taking new threats by north korea seriously. this morning a north korean official said that nuclear weapons are the nation's life and will not be traded. it comes just a stay after the country said it was entering a state of war with south korea. the white house responded by saying the north korean country has a history of making empty threats. however the united states says it is prepared to defend its allies. a former u.s. ambassador says although north korea hasn't taken any military action there are concerns the country's 28- year-old leader may have something to prove. >> i think there are many north koreans who have their doubts about whether this kid is really up to this. >> south korea is on heightened alert. tensions started to escalate last month when the north carried out its third nuclear weapons test. >>> new this morning, the husband of former congresswoman gabrielle giffords is making another push for gun control. >> over 90% of americans support a universal background check. and there is incredible momentum in congress and around the nation to get this done. >> this morning on fox news sunday, mark kelly said that access to mental health records should be included in a gun control bill being considered in congress. giffords was seriously injured in a shooting rampage two years ago in tucson. the man who shot her passed a background, despite evidence of mental illness. >>> an investigation is now under way into the shooting deaths of a north texas county district attorney and his wife. district attorney mike mcclellan and his wife cynthia were found dead yesterday in their home in coffman. the mayor of coffman says the shootings do not appear to be random. their deaths come just two months after an assistant district attorney was gunned down outside the county courthouse. investigators do not know if the deaths are connected. >>> governor jerry brown has used the easter weekend to grant pardons to 65 people. governor jerry brown has used the pardons to go to people with drug convictions. one convicted murderer was also pardoned. all of them were released from prison more than 10 years ago and haven't committed any crimes since. this is the second time in the of the million dollar reward case offered in the christopher dorner case. the peace officers research association of california says it's going to rescind its $50,000 reward offer because dorner was never arrested, tried or convicted. he was wanted for killing two civilians and two police officers. but authorities say he took his own life during a standoff. the city of riverside also pulled its $100,000 reward offer last week and there are reports that other agencies may also take similar actions. >>> we're learning major flaws were uncovered in if gps devices used to track sex offenders in california. testing on the electronic monitors last year found batteries died, cases cracked and offenders could jam the devices or block their signals. par rollees could essentially block the signal. >>> tomorrow hundreds of patients will be tested for hiv and hepatitis after a scare at a dental office in oklahoma. yesterday, hundreds of dental patients lined up to get their tests, but only 420 guests were actually completed. that's only a fraction of the 7000 people who were sent notices. health inspectors say the dentist used poor hygiene exposing patients to hiv and hepatitis. so far charges have not been filed against the dentist. his practice has been shut down while officials investigate. >>> a southern california teenager is fighting to recover after losing four limbs when she became infected with a deadly form of meningitis. the family of kaitlin dabreaux has set up a website to help raise money towards her recovery and it's already been a pretty big success. the family says people across the nation have shown a lot of support. their goal was to raise $25,000 but donations now total more than $37,000. >>> san francisco emergency officials want to make sure everyone is prepared for a tsunami. yesterday emergency officials walked along the tsunami evacuati route at ocean beach. signs are posted from ocean beach to about 47th avenue, in areas that could be at greatest risk during a tsunami. areas at risk include the embarkadero, the piers and several blocks of the molina. >> every place that is in an inundation zone has the signs up so that residents, n.b.a.ers and visitors would know what to do. >> the department of emergency management says people should rely on neighborhood response teams during a tsunami. they're made up of people who have gone through 20 hours of training to help in a disaster. yesterday's event was part of national tsunami preparedness week. >>> a baby polar bear found orphaned in alaska is making his way to new york's buffalo zoo. yesterday right here on mornings on 2 we introduced you to luna. she made her public debut on friday and yesterday we told you that she was being joined by a male polar bear cub from alaska. and now, we are getting a look at luna's future roommate. this is koli. he was rescued two weeks ago after a hunter shot and killed his mother. alaska allows native transcribes to harvest polar bears and the hunter says he did not know the bear had a cub but now koli is at the alaska zoo in anchorage. he will be sent to new york this spring. zoo officials say having the two polar bears
