and that high wood pulp content makes the paper age rapidly. you know? the papers we see from the 1880s are in absolutely the worst condition we find in our collection as a whole. and the newseum's collection dates from the 1490s to present day. so the 1880s are the worst of it. they're the mark in time where the wood pulp content is high and they're as old as dirt and they're beginning to just crumble and yellow and they're brittle and, you know, they're sometimes really complicated, really hard to salvage. the papers here still have that nice high cotton rag content. they look good. they don't age in the same way. the acid content is lower. it's the acid in the wood pulp that makes them age so aggressively and that's what is the case with your newspaper today. it's very acidic and it has the capacity to age pretty rapidly. you let your papers hang around for a couple months and they're already yellowing and it's the same wig those later papers in the 1880s. six of the seven editions here in this exhibit are from the newseum's permanent collection. we w
