it was one week ago today that firefighters came to this mansion on woodland drive in a tony section of northwest washington. there they found the bodies of four victims. they had been tied up, beaten stabbed and held captive here for almost a day. the fire set to conceal the crime and destroy the evidence.suspect/victim connection. >> we do believe that there is a connection between this suspect in this case through the business. >> reporter: the connection. police believe that suspect wint once worked for american iron works on kinl worth avenue in prince george's county maryland, a company owned by savvas savopoulos. sources say wint worked there from 2003 to 2005 and sources say he had a relative who was fired from that company some time ago.

that porsche was in the driveway of the woodland drive home in northwest d.c., hours before those bodies were recovered. it was found in the parking lot of st. christopher's episcopal church. that car had been set on fire. detectives were out there today investigating, trying to recover any possible surveillance video that may have captured the person who set that car on fire. now several neighbors confirmed to news 4 that amy and sava lived in that home where the bodies were found. we do not know at this point if they are among the victims. the d.c. fire computer rated dispatch said one of the victims was transported to the hospital. that victim was bleeding from the head and as you said smelled like gas. now the family had been a ceo at american iron works in the high yachtsville area of prince george's county. d.c. police detectives went there today. they were interviewing numerous employees. we talked to workers as well and they all told us that he's a great guy. >> sav. so a great man. we love him a lot. >> you worked for his company? >> yes. yeah. three g

the scene is unfolding on woodland drive not far from the vice president's residents. roussey is live on the scene with details he just learned from sources in the fire department. tom? reporter: that residents is right over there and where this fire happened is just on the street here on woodland drive. you can see firefighters on scene. a lot of investigators as well. this fire broke out earlier this afternoon. here is video of what it looked like all the flames were still burning. we've been able to confirm through sources for people are dead. at least one apparently is a juvenile. investigators have also confirmed we're looking into a strong possibility that this fire was in fact intentionally set. a lot of folks are on the neighborhood here very upset by the news that for people have lost their lives. also because we don't fully know what happened out here to start all this. >> it is frightening. especially when you don't know what happened. four people during the day. very scary. reporter: back out here live you'll see a lot of investigators and others on scene.

an atf van, police cruisers and evidence collection experts all at the home on woodland drive. an unusual sight in one of the district's most exclusive neighborhoods. but this is an unusual crime scene and disturbing new information points to the possibility of murder and arson. news 4 has learned that at least one of the victims found in the fire showed signs of blunt force trauma. there are also signs that the fire may have been intentionally set. an internal d.c. fire department chronology of the incident shows one of the victims who was transported to the hospital was bleeding from the head and smelled of gasoline. the fire department was called to the home around 1:30 in the afternoon on thursday. when rescuers went inside they discovered four bodies. neighbors say a couple with three children live in the home. nearby st. albin's school sent out a note saying one of the victims of the tragedy was a student and they would have grief counselors on hand. and police are looking for information about the driver of a blue porsche 911, d.c. tag dk 2418. that porsche was seen here

now, neighbors say a couple and their young son live in this house on woodland drive. the fourth person found dead is believed to be the housekeeper. now, arson and homicide detectives were on the scene on thursday and police chief cathy lanier is calling this situation very suspicious. it was 1:30 in the afternoon when a fire broke out at the home when rescue crews went inside, that's when they found four bodies on the second floor. how they died exactly what happened, that is not known at this point. now, yesterday, news4's jackie bensen spoke to a woman who normally comes to the house on thursdays to help her friend clean. that morning she got a text message telling her not to come. >> she sent me a text message around 10:00. she said i want to make sure you're not coming today. and come on monday. or any other day but don't come today. >> reporter: police are looking for information about a porsche, blue porsche 911 with a dc tag of dk 2418. that car was seen around 10:30 by the house and then left. it was located later in the afternoon, but police want information

it was one week ago today that firefighters came to this mansion on woodland drive in a tony section of northwest washington. there they found the bodies of four victims. they had been tied up, beaten stabbed and held captive here for almost a day. the fire set to conceal the crime and destroy the evidence.suspect/victim connection. >> we do believe that there is a connection between this suspect in this case through the business. >> reporter: the connection. police believe that suspect wint once worked for american iron works on kinl worth avenue in prince george's county maryland, a company owned by savvas savopoulos. sources say wint worked there from 2003 to 2005 and sources say he had a relative who was fired from that company some time ago. now a wake is scheduled tomorrow for housekeeper vera figueroa. the savopoulos family funeral is scheduled for june the 1st. jim, back to you. >> our coverage continues now in atlanta, maryland, where the family's porsche was found, set afire last thursday. and we now know that the suspect lived a little more than two miles from that scene.
