those are wood stairs in a wood structure. much better solution. they're also protected because they're inside. so they're not going to have as much of a problem. they still have a joint there which is a leak problem that has to be caulked. this is sort of an interesting exercise. as you walk down the street i want to you look at the buildings carefully and see if you can see the space between the buildings in san francisco. and here we have a space that's about 3 fourth of an inch or an inch or something like that -- 3/4 of an -- 3 fourth of an inch or an -- 3/ of an inch or an inch, or something like that. you do a roof and your neighbor does a roof and you put a piece of flashing between the building and that keeps water out of that space between the buildings. water gets down there between the buildings and it's extremely difficult to repair dry rot inside that space. you have to take the inside wall out to get to it. we also see a couple of other things happening here. we see a down spout from a drain and those need to just be checked to make

so i'm looking at some painted wood here which is white, but then some sort of bleached wood as well,o sort of monotone. exactly. i mean, it could run the risk of getting a little boring, right white on white on white? well, no, i mean, you have to look at the textures of it. so this is a hand-painted cabinet. those are going to be in the kitchen. some very, very slight striations here from the brushstrokes, i can pick those up. and then the backsplash tile is really cool. vertical and horizontal running lines. it's an oversized tile 5 1/2 x 22. oh, wow. so this actually is pretty long this way. it's going to be run all along the back wall of the kitchen. and then we have the southern yellow pine and that's going to be on the hood and in the bays of the windows. so the hood above the range, and then those window bays. and i guess, you know, white on white on white is a little bit of a misnomer, 'cause you look at this, there is some contrast there. yeah, there's a lot of texture. it's very sophisticated. okay. and then, kevin, in the dining room sally really loves the slabby modern wo

i chose to find my own wood from a south shore school. we refurbished the wood and built new. we wanted a stable table but also had character. when designing a kitchen, start off with your island. i really wd thisand to be the gathering place for the family. if you look closely you can see the divots from people rolling. i also wanted it to feel spacious. i chose one that had nothing underneath. a great way to add another focal point, add a sliding barn door. now to the family room. the last room but the most important. this room just like the other ones was a small space to work with. i also wanted it to reflect the family. so i had them choose a bunch of old artwork, pictures, things close to them to add to the wall. this had a plain dry walled ceiling. i added detail. as you look up top you can see we added crown molding and also the boards. it reflects the artwork which gives more attention to the room. thanks for checking out my design on lincoln park today. i hope this will help you in your future projects. >>> still ahead, a spacious connecticut home with a unique ameni
