protesters are calling for justice in the death of 26-year-old mario woods. good evening. i'm julie haener. >> and i'm frank somerville. the police scheef -- chief says his officers did all they could and the suspect, already accused of stabbing someone, refused to drop his knife. now there's new video of officers shooting and killing the 26-year-old and it's giving us a clearer picture of exactly what happened yesterday. the video in this case is from a different angle and we do need to warn you it is difficult to watch and listen to. police say they had tried to apprehend woods using bean bag guns and pepper spray. when that didn't work, they said they had no other option but to shoot him. wood's family says he was in a state of mental destress and the shooting was not justified. they have taken legal action against the department. since the shooting death of woods on december 27, the san francisco police department has faced criticism and test for people in the community. some are called for the chief to resign. ktvu learned sur had a death threat made against him. the policy change raises the bar on what qualifies as use of force. now, members of the community organizations who have been involved in those protests hope that this will make officers think twice about reaching for their weapon when confronting people. but again, the police officer's union is opposed to this policy change. they have scheduled a news conference at noon today to express their concerns. we're going to be covering that later this afternoon. back to you, dave. >> allie rasvus in our newsroom. we'll talk to you later. t
