right now, where anne, woodside fire, you can see this rain cell right there. and as those cells were moving through, a lot of people were seeing lightning. it may not be the cloud-to- ground lightning. but there are some flashes lighting up. los gatos may see rain with this cell coming through. so if there's lightning in the mountains, that's what firefighters will be watching for. to the south, look at this near gilroy, watsonville, this is significant amount of rain coming through. that's about a half inch of rain per hour in the areas of orange. areas read up to 1.5" of rain per hour the areas in red. all these lightning strikes have been occurring for the past couple of hours near monterey just off the coast of monterey. santa cruz, as well. that's expected to move further north. we have seen a lot of this north motion today. also some of the east to west motion, as well. especially with this one coming down across antioch now. just moved through brentwood, still bringing some lightning down there. bethel island got hit by it and now antioch's turn it's go

today we saw them battling the largest west of woodside with an aggressive air attack. it started at 7:45 pm. they say the skeggs fire has grown. christina has the latest on the firefight and she joins us live. >> reporter: calfire is estimating that 1000 lightning strikes came across last night. that was a chopper over us and it continues to make air drops on the skeggs fire . all of them were put out with the exception of this one. we have been watching the air attack on skeggs fire. the choppers and helicopters making all of the water drops and drops of fire retardant. there is zero containment on this fire and burned about 50 acres and the hardest thing is the access. there are about 132 firefighters that had to hike a mile and a half in rugged terrain to get to this fire from the road. the concern is having another fire start by lightning this evening.>> we are able to see where the strikes are. we are having airplanes fly over the area to look for smoke in the air. >> reporter: they said that the wind is working in their favor. they are keeping the fire from runni

the "skeggs fire" is burning in a remote spot between skyline boulevard and woodside road. about 50 acres had burned and the fire is 10 percent contained. right now no homes are being threatened. and as we reported at the top of the hour... more lightning is hitting the bay area right now.
