this is from worcestershire.how things are looking in nottinghamshire this morning. if we look at some of the lying snow depths across the country we have around 50 centimetres of snow across parts of south wales. elsewhere, between 20 to 40 centimetres, so enough to cause ongoing disruption and with the cold conditions, it is not going to be melting in a hurry. we have these brisk, easterly winds coming in from siberia. further south, the winds are turning more southerly to something less cold on the cards with the arrival of the re m na nts of the cards with the arrival of the remnants of storm emma. this will continue to bring some more snow through today. so this morning, the snow is as heavy across wales and southern england as it has been but we will see another band of heavier and more persistent snow pushing in from the south during this afternoon. more snow showers for north—east england and eastern scotland, further west across northern part of the country, things are not looking quite as snowy but temp

it is a snow day for many schools, more than 180 in worcestershire and more than 2000 across the westitters. people are trying to hide away and stay warm and taking advice which is not to travel unless necessary all stop —— unless necessary. thank you very much indeed. let's get more on the situation on the roads. we have seen so much chaos and disruption on roads and motorways through the night, as we have been saying. hundreds and hundreds of drivers stranded at various points for many hours. when there are accidents in the snow and on the icy blocks motorways and there are thousands of vehicles stranded. now we have the latest on that. here they are able to see all the motorway network across the south of england. they have been incredibly busy over the last 36 hours. the busiest was on the a303, the highway to the son. it remains very difficult down there with big eyes. we are getting reports of a serious accident involving 40 vehicles. —— thick ice. early stages of that incident but we're working with the police to try to understand what is going on and our crews are in route to
