today we have two workshops. we have a morning session, then there be a break and then an afternoon session. i printed some things out of large size sheets. the fall agenda -- the full agenda and some of the labs that are here that seem so big did not look that big when we printed them out on half size, so i wanted you to have the benefit of the larger size print. so, just to review from the agenda, workshop runs from 10:00 until noon. we will be walking through the rest of the projects we did not get to on april 27, talking through some of the questions that have come up at previous meetings and responding to them, then moving on to level of service discussions. there will be words on technology from our progress engineering group. we will also talk about the rate of impact. workshop #7 will start in the afternoon at 1:30, where we will talk about flooding, community benefits, climate change, sustainability. at the end of the day there is a potential commission action to endorse the goals and levels of service a

so the workshop will be having discussions about that. there will be a break-out session amongst the lawyers, to have a discussion about legal strategies that were used to get the ballot name changed and some of the things that were key in actually making sure that the proposition ended up failing or that the voters had well education about what the proposition was really about. so that is what the focus of the workshop is on is on that type of item, you know. we have people coming from all over northern california. i think even a couple of people from southern california are coming up to attend this event and be part of these workshops and have a discussion. and once that is done, there will actually be a celebration afterwards that people are also welcome to come to as well. this will be taking place at the merchants exchange building here in san francisco. the workshops start at 1:00, go till about 5:00. the party starts about 5:30. so we will be doing that. as of this morning we had 66 people signed up for the workshop, and we actuall

the idea was born at a workshop we were doing with youth who expressed feelings of disempowerment. no one was listening to them. and although his heart is still in his music, roz understands the importance of listening to the voices of young people and of being a man tore and that's often the most difficult role anyone can undertake. i work in juvenile justice and roz and i often talk about how fearful adults are of young people and how wary how adults are interacting with youth who aren't their own. we know that working with youth is among the hardest and most rewarding things you can do. roz has traveled to europe and japan with his band and he has been sent all over, even to kenya to represent his community as an organizer and as an artist. he always come home to continue working with the youth on a weekly basis here in the bay area and on reservations. he just returned this week from working on the ute reservation in colorado with youth instructing them how to write lyrics and create music. that is one of his other loves. so ultimately when i lock at him, i see someone who give

so we held a workshop and had all of the agencies that would aid us in recovery there. we had even we provided residents with text messaging assistance for elderly who never texted before. one of the things we realized after the storm we could not use our cell phones even when we were evacuated. the cell phones were down. one thing you could do was text. it was interesting. you can send a text message. we are trying to get our residents give them the knowledge to do that should we need to evacuate again. and this is just an example of a flyer for our expo and you have to tailor it to the diversity of your community. making sure what other dialects or languages that are present in your neighborhood that you address that. and you make sure that you are inclusive to everyone. just an example of our agenda for our expo. and the communications, this is a piece that we have come up with post katrina and that is a 1-800 evacuation check in number that our residents can call into in the event that we must evacuate. residents can call and let the improvement association know whe

at sundance, in every rehearsal process, i like being part of a very generous workshop. if you were in there you would say, wow, it's pretty free-wheeling. for example, you have 9 characters, 9 story lines that all are trying to be pieced together so they all are introduced, they all intertwine and at the end they are all resolved in some form or fashion. it's a delicate architecture. as we were in rehearsal process, i really rely on actors to kind of say at some point you have tweaked something here, but my character on this part of act 2 no longer is in the right place. so we have to pay attention to that. so in the rehearsal process, it's very democratic up to a point. i talked to cary recently, said i think it got to a point there's so much stuff that i have to keep in my point i need to sort of cull it down a little bit and make it more specific because the point is, everything is in my head and if i'm throwing stuff out and putting stuff in, whatever comes out or goes in has to stay part of this architectural plan that i have in my head so that it always stays stru
