wright had killed before in 1962. in farming dale, new jersey. write with another man robbed a gas station and gunned down a world war ii bronze star recipient and father of two. he was sent to prison in and in 1970 he moved to detroit where he met up with members of the black liberation army. they practiced voodoo. that are are they studied witchcraft. >> and plotted the hijacking. transcripts of tower recordings detailed the negotiations that day in miami. the hijackers demanded the money comes on first before any passenger gets off. air traffic control respond the men are putting on bathing suits and going-over with the money now. they released the passengers. >> they brought it up by route. >> the plane took off for boston to pick up an entering navigator to help them get where they wanted to go. algeria. the flaf gator boarded the plane in only a swimsuit. >> the hijackers, three men and two women accompanied by three children. >> during the overseas flight, he smoked a lot of pot, even in the cockpit. >> they offer you any? >> yes. >> did e

brandon wright was on his bike when he was hit by a car and pinned underneath as both the motorcycle and car then burst into flames. and the pictures of what happened next are remarkable to watch. our report from nbc's george lewis. >> reporter: it was captured on video by someone in a nearby office. >> oh, my gosh. >> reporter: trapped under the burning car, brandon wright, a student at utah state university. at first a small group of people tries to lift the car without success. >> oh, my gosh. >> reporter: then, within seconds, other bystanders rush in, ignoring the heat, the flames and the danger. one of them is anvar. >> it was very hot, just hot and kind of dangerous. i thought it was close to explode. >> reporter: together they tipped the car so brandon could be pulled out. >> it was amazing that they risked their lives -- 12 people, however many it was, risked their lives to save brandon's life. >> reporter: police ordered rescuers to back off as they summoned medical help. paramedics arriving within minutes. this dramatic rescue recalls earlier incidents where ordinary peopl

. >> reporter: behind me in the hospital, 21-year-old bran do that wright is expected to make a fullecovery thanks to a group of ordinary citizens who pulled him from beneath in a flaming automobile. without them, key hahe could ha burned to death. moments after the car collided with wright's motorcycle, local 911 switchboards lit up. >> i don't know if it's going to explode or not. >> reporter: wright a student at utah state university is alive this morning because of the kindness of strangers. a group of people who rushed into rescue him as he was trapped under the car that hit his motorcycle, rupturing the gas tank. >> he know there is angels out there. >> reporter: brandon was conscious as a small group of people tried unsuccessfully to lift the car. >> he says he remembers everything that happened, spitting out blood and not being able to talk. >> reporter: more rescuers arrived and disregarding the danger of fire or explosion, they tipped car far enough so brandon could be pulled to safety. >> it was only a matter of three to five seconds before there were dozens ever citizens

marshals started tracking george wright about a decade ago.u know, blew the dust off the case, they finally got the lead that they needed. portuguese authorities mondayed arrested george wright in central portugal, a charming tourist town just outside lisbon. wright had apparently married a portuguese woman and with their two kids he was living there and working as a painter under the alias jose louise jorge desanta. he was accused of taking part of one the most brazen hijackings. he and three others boarded a miami-bound delta flight smuggling a gun inside a hallowed out bible. they ordered fbi agents to deliver $1 million cash, the most ever paid in ransom, for the safe release of about 80 passengers. and the agents had to do it while they were wearing bathing suits. you can kind of see there, so that the hijackers could see they were unarmed. now, the plane left more boston, refueled, and then flew to algeria, where the hijackers were briefly detained and then set free. the group taken in by american writer and black panther activist eldrid
