kelly wright joins us live with the latest. >> police are looking into the last hours of phillip seymour hoffman's life. in two separate places he is described as looking gray and very sweaty. police question a manager of a near guy brosch restore where he was spotted saturday night. cops are checking surveillance video of a bank atm where he was seen on sunday hours before his death. a man telling police he saw hoffman withdraw a large sum of cash and appears to buy drugs from them. he was then found dead inside of his apartment. a syringe was stuck in the actor's arm and 70 bags of heroin was found. some of those bags were labeled with certain names a brand name for certain dealers. >>> they want the addicts to come and get their product they differentiate from other dealers. >> ace of spades, ace of hearts. looks like he bought these from a drug dealer. >> they are looking for the two men. they want to know the brand he used. he leaves behind three children their mother and a girlfriend. in honor of hoffman the lights will be dimmed on broadway tomorrow. ee >> the latest in the bridge

in their last call together lauren wright said he sounds as if he was in distress. broken down and he had taken off down the highway. his belongings turned up on a nearby ranch. offering the family an explanation they say makes no sense at all. the body was found 150 yards from where sheriff's deputies had set up the command post. how was he so close and we didn't find him? it was not like he was miles away. he was right there. saying there was no foul play, sheriff tom maddox called off the search after only four days. leaving family and friends to find the body on their own. just as the sheriff had foreseen, an autopsy found drugs, three kinds. though his family insists they had never seen him do any drugs. i believe that someone did this to my husband. fred, the family believes alfred may have been captured and tortured. independent pathologist hired by the family believe that there is the idea of the death being questionable. >> thank you. this investigation is part of a cnn special. [laughter] yes, hap learned to fly from the wright brothers and began a career which took him to be, as the subl on the book says, the man who invented the united states air force. his entire career became part of that, of that effort to build army aviation into an independent air force. but before i start talking about his career, willie mentioned that there were some family interviews in the book, and i depended very heavily on those and, in fact, stole a lot of great stories from hap's grandson, robert arnold, and we're very privileged to have with us today robert arnold, and i'd like to invite robert up to tell a few stories about hap's early life and career. robert? kristen wright has been following the story with the latest. >> reporter: a line of police cars on 29. police talking to the bus driver and talking to witnesses. as you said, the students had just been on a field trip, we'd learned, to the white house. such a memorable experience but unfortunately this is what they will remember. the kids go to hammond middle school in laurel, 14 students on the bus and their driver and their principal. the bus was headed north on 29. at the same time, the elderly man was crossing 29 towards the shopping center here. police say that's when the bus hit him. officers are reconstructing the accident to find out how this happened and to answer questions like, did the man use the crosswalk and did he have the right of way? what happened? we talked to a woman who works near this intersection. she did not see the crash, does not know what happened but is concerned this is a problem intersection. >> that is very sad. from what i've -- i kind of cross sometimes and i time the lights but the crossing lights don't work that well. i think once you get to the midd
