john lyon, wyff news 4, honea path. michael: new details right now out of spartanburg county tonight. a woman is recovering after deputies say her husband shot her, and left her to die in the yard. today, a judge denied bond for johnathan batchelor. deputies say he shot his wife, stephanie, several times in their garage earlier this month, here on reidville road. investigators say stephanie was able to talk with deputies yesterday for the first time since the shooting, and the evidence led them to her husband. stephanie's attorney says doctors are calling her recovery miraculous. regained consciousness a little while back. she's been in the hospital for three weeks now, and the doctors are optimistic that in a couple of weeks, she'll be able to leave the hospital. michael: the couple has two children, a two-year-old and a four-year-old. t being cared for by relatives. the teen known for his "affluenza" defense in court is back on u.s. soil. mexican police arrested ethan couch in mexico last month. he is 18 years old. thi

myra ruiz, wyff news 4, greenwood. michael: hundreds came out to say goodbye to an upstate lawmaker who died last week. a funeral service for senator billy o'dell took place at the first presbyterian church in greenwood. he died in his sleep on thursday. he was 77 years old and served in the state senate since 1989. o'dell represenated district 4, which included abbeville, anderson, and greenwood counties. he is survived by his wife and two children. gabrielle: deputies say the led to a murder charge for the baby's mother. anderson county deputies arrested 23-year-old joanie holcombe. the baby's body was found saturday morning, in a field near cherokee circle. officials say the body could have been there since mid-december. according to warrants, holcombe is accused of giving birth to a baby girl, and placing her in a plastic bag. holcombe's bond hearing has been delayed due to health reasons. michael: also in anderson county, the sheriff's office is investigating what deputies are calling a double homicide. deputies s

wyff news 4's liz lohuis has the story. liz: governor haley did not comment tonight on the response she will give to the state of the union address next week, but lawmakers in south carolina feel she will give a very thought provoking response. >> the first south carolinian to for representing us. liz: at a stop in pickens county tonight, governor haley spoke about the heart of south carolina. >> we care about how we treat people. we are respectful in the way we treat people, but we believe in what we believe, and we do fight for it. liz: local lawmakers believe that fight will be in her during the state of the union gop response. >> we had a lot of terrific things happen to our state, in our state, and she led, when the national eye was on south carolina, with a very steady hand. liz: easley councilman terry moore expects her to voice opposition to obama's gun control orders. >> the president brought up that conversation today, and i think everyone in the united states is talking about that tonight, and a lot of people don

wyff news 4's corey davis, with some tips on how to stay on track with your new year's resolution. corey: right now, it's packed here at the caine halter branch of the ymca. a lot of people working out here have dififrent fitness goals, but a trainer says it's important to come in with a plan. the beginning of the year usually means thousands of new memberships at ymca locations in greenville county. roughly 3500 people usually sign up, hoping to have a healthier year. but wellness specialists say, a lot people don't make it through we're told it's important to find something that you like to do, whether it is a group exercise are working with a trainer. specialists suggest that you have a workout partner, to help keep you motivated throughout the year. right now, 41% of south carolinians are obese, and battling many health issues. experts say being active has a lot of health benefits. >> exercise can help you decrease blood pressure, your blood cholesterol. so it's not only for looks, but it's also for your health. corey: the "y" offers a free program for all members, called "well

corey davis, wyff news 4, in clemson. nigel: in simpsonville, people near rocky creek missionary baptist church say their car windows were shot out the same night the church was vandalized. wyff news 4's aly myles spoke with some of those neighbors. >> it's just unbelievable. people like this, they're capable of anything, and i think this is just a start. aly: tracy reed has lived here for 20 years. he says he's never dealt with maliciououdamage like this. his truck, less than a year old, with a destroyed window from what deputies believe was a pellet gun. >> the people that done this, i hope they don't take this as a i will do everything in my power to eliminate such a threat upon my family and my home. aly: we're less than a mile from the church right now. tracy says his truck was parked out here. that's where he says it was shot, but he also says his neighbor over here had their window shot out, as well. and that neighbor over here, a few houses down, had their car vandalized, as well. greenville county sheriff's offic

live in charleston, patrick hussion, wyff news 4. new tonight in anderson county, officials there are on the case of human remains, found spread out in a wooded area. the deputy coroner tells us the remains were found near the intersection of river and mcneely roads, around 5:00 tonight. he says the remains may have been there for as long as a year. investigators say, because of their condition, there is no way to determine the age, gender, or race of the remains. authorities will continue their on-scene investigation tomorrow morning. new information on a fatal crash in anderson county. we now know the name of the victim. authorities say 42-year-old stephen l. christenbury was pronounced dead at the scene this afternono. troopers say the crash happened at the intersection of smith mcgee road and good hope church road. authorities say it was the third fatal crash in southern anderson county in just 24 hours. right now, crews are undergoing a massive search for 12 missing marines. a 22-year-old from spartanburg county was with one of t

this is wyff news 4 at noon, in high definition. geoff: at least 19 people are dead in an attack on a university in northwest pakistan. several others are wounded. police say the attack began shortly after classes started at bacha khan university. no one has claimed responsibility for the attack. attorney general loretta lynch is set to testify before a senate subccommittee to discuss her agency's role in implementing new executive actions on gun control. earlier this month, president obama announced steps to expand mandatory background checks. lynch helped the president come up with ways to confront gun violence. she testified in the first panel appearing before the sub-committee this morning. the second panel includes alabama's attorney general and the founder of sandy hook promise, a group devoted to protecting kids from gun violence. this comes a day after the supreme court announced it would take up the president's executive actions on immigration. less than 24-hours before sarah palin endorsed donald trump, her son, track, was

john lyon, wyff news 4, easley. carol: it's been a year since 16-year-old cobey smith was killed in greenville. investigators are still searching for answers. january 25th, 2015, by the sliding rock creek trail. that's not far from smith's home at heritage park. tonight, a candlelight vigil was held on clark street, in the nicholtown community. family members tell us, they are still seeking justice for cobey's death >> i mean, it's been a year now since he's been away from us. it kind of makes you ask questions, like, if everybody has given up. but i'm not going to give up on him. carol: crimestoppers offered a reward, but no tips have come in that have led to an arrest. michael: in anderson, a nine-year-old boy was shot inside his home during a drive-by shooting. deputies say no arrests have been made in the case. according to an incident report, it happened saturday nig home on crooked creek court. the boy's mother told investigators she was in her bedroom when she heard several gunshots. minutes later, the boy sh
