talk to us about what is so unique about wyoming and what it means for liz cheney. >> sure.he reasons that you just said are the reason that this might be seen by people in washington as sort of a proxy battle for the soul of the republican party. wyoming has not gone for a democrat in a presidential election since lyndon johnson in '64 and not represented by a democrat in congress since one democratic was ousted in '78 and that was after 18 years in office. the reasons are fairly obvious. wyoming's economy is based almost on entirely fossil fuels and they fund schools and keep government open and provide well paying jobs in community that doesn't have a strong tax base on their own and democrats favor policies counter to fossil fuel interests so you see observe lopsided races here. the half of the state's land is owned by the federal government which creates a interesting dynamic here. politics at the state level are much more nuance than that, despite that reliance on fossil fuels, there is a strong conservation streak here. over the years, it's conservatism is defined by

, the single seat representing wyoming in the house.ving the door open for a potential white house run in 2024. but she seemed to close that in her fox news interview last night. joining me now to discuss is a democrat who serves as a minority leader in the wyoming state senate. minority leader, good to have you. you're there. we're not. so what are your republican and your democratic friends, quaintances, constituents saying to you about all of this? >> well, i think it's very mixed. i do have many colleagues obviously in the republican party. we're a state that is overwhelmingly a red state, majority. and my colleagues and friends in the republican side are very much split. many of them remain, i think, loyal to the previous president trump. and are concerned about the positions that representative cheney has taken. and then at the same time, many of my friends are very proud of the decision that representative cheney has made in really supporting and upholding the constitution and so i think there is a pretty substantial schism over

>> well, let's find out in wyoming.epublicans want? i have one sort of theory here that says, boy, if she's not in leadership, does it take the glare off of her and actually make the primary slightly easier? but i'm just curious. give us the lay of the land on the ground there. >> yeah, that's kind of a challenging facet of all of this. first off, wyoming is trump's -- probably his best-performing state anywhere in the country. most that i've seen from his four years here show that wyoming would usually be at the top or trading places with alabama when we're talking about his biggest supporting states. that number is supported by what we saw at the polls. in 2016 while the nation saw a depressed turnout, wyoming actually set voting records and that high mark was shattered four years later. that's also the interesting dynamic that we're looking at in republican politics here. while trump is a huge part of that, voters here really do love trump. there are also some really practical considerations for voting republican tha
