-- international guy at xiaomi.hat are the challenges? >> the challenges i couldn't have thought of before, even just a few months ago. it varies from one country to the other. in india, for instance, because it such a huge country with so many tier 3, 24 cities, it is a huge challenge. understanding the logistics ecosystems took us a huge amount of time. but we are making a lot of progress. in brazil, its manufacturing. in brazil you have to manufacture locally to be able to sell consumer electronics. because otherwise the taxes are too high. in brazil, we expect that the way in which we communicate with our fans is going to be different. it's going to be much more humor focused, probably very inappropriate, it's just a different psyche, different sense of humor. we adapt and learn, but there new challenges everywhere. >> what new markets are happening for xiaomi in 2015? >> we are in a markets already we're launching brazil sometime later the semester. after that, we're still kind of thinking about -- we have our

we're wondering if we need to start getting ready to cover some big xiaomi/apple trial.this work? >> yeah. you know they're not bringing the phones here yet and i think the patent issue is one of the reasons. they talked about a range of things including the community, they call themselves an internet company. they don't like being called a handset company. that said there's all kinds of issues around the patents and expanding in brazil and other fast-growing countries so we're not going to see handsets here but they're going to sell a lot of the accessories and different things like that. >> is there any anxiety you can pick up among potential competitors there about xiaomi as a threat overseas? that might be one issue for apple? >> yeah. yeah, i think that's where they're growing in the fast-growing countries and these communities they're building around the phones are interesting and how quickly they can iterate the software is really interesting. i think every company in silicon valley that makes phones is talking about iteration of phones and how you do them quickly

one thing we think xiaomi has going for it is it's got a really great user base. a really good following in china, and other asian countries. >> we think xiaomi -- they will have a very good shot at taking big share. the other reason why i think xiaomi's camera is going to cost you $100, $150, and go pro's cameras cost $300. i think this puts a kabosh on go pro. >> we had one of your competitors on earlier this week and he talked about the fact that there are a lot of add-ones. let's call it the doggie cam. that's where the growth is going to be coming from. where do you stand on that story? >> yeah. it's definitely accessories do sell. i have accessories for it, but i bought the cheapest accessories, not the go pro accessories. i would just say it's tough to find an accessories stock. i don't think your afp are a lot lower. >> we're going to leave it there. an underperformed rating on go pro. perhaps no surprise. this has been a dog year to date. >> false breakouts to the upside. feeble each time. as much as i'd like to say you buy it here, i don't think you can.

does it matter that they invest in maizu and not xiaomi, the number two?es it not matter, because the phones are not that different? neil: it was a good move. maizu is one of the best design houses in china. if you see their smartphone design language, the narrow portfolio, and the focus on the devices they have, it is a very good move. the only thing is, maizu lacked marketing muscle, or the go to market strategy xiaomi had for the last few years. cory: when i look at this, i wonder if the thing that makes it matter is not the marketing dollars, but the name brand alibaba has in china. i do not have a sense of -- alibaba tells me they have a great name brand in china, but do they? can this propel sales, just by having an alibaba phone, but it will suddenly be successful? neil: it will not be an alibaba phone. it will definitely use the maizu brand name, which is more of a younger type brand, and second to xiaomi in terms of the overall marketing to consumers. cory: thank you very much. we appreciate it. we will have more "bloomberg west" right after this.
