at yale he found the yale minority medical association which focused on recruitment and mentorship of students in the medicalfield. he touched countless lives here and abroad. a prime example where his his trips in africa to provide pro bono help. for many of his patients, dr. phillips was not just a medical professional. he was family. throughout his practice, his partes became informal grandparents, aunts and uncles and lifelong friends whose childhoods were defined by these relationships and i'm honored to have met so many of these people at the funeral service. even more so, his son and two daughters were defined by living in a household where love, warmth and patience were the norm from dr. phillips and his wife melody. i and all those represent have benefited from their life and warmth and through his brilliant daughter. i'm grateful to have elise as part of my d.c. staff and i see the same have iter tuesday that made her father a respected man. those at dr. phillips' service asked to ask congress to pass sensible gun reforms and ensure that a tragedy like this never happen agai
