let's go to supervisor yee. supervisor norman yee: thank you. today i'm honoring an outstanding individual in district 7. mark christensen. please come to the podium. mark work tirelessly throughout the year with his neighborhood organization metna. which stands for merced extended triangle association to ensure his neighborhood gets the attention it deserves. besides supervisor avalos does anybody know where it is? when you come off the freeway on 280 going to 19th avenue, you shoot over the little triangle area. that's part of my district that hardly anybody knows about. but i do know and it has a nice supermarket area. due to mark's work it has not been totally forgotten. he works very hard to fill the unoccupied spaces on the mall and was successful in bringing the much needed grocery store at the time. mark is a driving force in recruiting many other people to get involved and work in a positive way with both city and the neighborhood. that is why he is also being awarded the neighborhood empowerment network lifetime achievement award that

supervisor yee? supervisor norman yee: thank you madam clerk. first i want to thank supervisor kim's comments and taking a lead on submitting the resolutions that i'm coauthoring with her with supervisor avalos. the three main strategies that we are going to really get to the zero tolerance which is the street improvement piece, enforcement piece and education piece. all three of these strategies many of us are already aware of them, certainly in the district 7 pedestrian safety plan that report that i help put together this past year pointed out those three strategies. today i'm introducing a resolution along with supervisor's kim and avalos to create an action plan. let's go beyond, we are going to take a leap into the attempt to get us to zero. and so we want to have this pedestrian safety public awareness targeting the vehicle driver's and pedestrians. a lot of times we talk about this pedestrian safety awareness plan, people toned think it's all about what pedestrians should be doing. certainly that is an important piece of the ingredient,

supervisor yee. >> thank you. i want to thank supervisor wiener for bringing up this issue. the -- i get in my district actually concerns lighting or the lack of lighting or broken lighting and so forth are many of the calls i get. i appreciate you're bringing this issue. i think it's very important and we need to have discussion around it. i would, at some point, that we need to put some resources into improving our streetlighting. i'm a little concerned about that it is being brought up at a late time. i would have appreciated more if this had come up a lot earlier, but like supervisor avalos, i believe that this is only a week, it's worth having some focused discussion around this issue. i don't necessarily think that i might be supporting amendments at the end, but i'm willing to listen to the arguments. what it does for me is that we're making a statement that this board believes that streetlighting is very important as we move forward and i hope that's a message, if nothing else, to the capital planning committee that they need to -- we need to start addressing this is
