[ yelling >> about 300 police officers showing up to control the crowd of 300. some were there in support of mehserle, some felt he should have been convicted of a crime more serious than involuntary manslaughter. oscar grant of hayward was shot to death last year as mehserle tried to detain him in oakland. mehserle said he meant to use the taser but pulled the gun by mistake. >> i think it's unbelievable that people would take to the streets to support somebody who took a human life whether you thought it was an accident, by next, or you thought it was on purpose. >> if 12 people found him involuntary manslaughter, just let him go do his time and leave it alone. so in my heart, i believe he needs a little support. >> a restaurant, gas station and stretch of ygnacio valley road were closed for a few hours. the event ended with no problems and no arrests. >>> there's been a series of fires in berkeley over the past few days, most of them in trash cans. authorities are trying to figure out what's
