we now have data on what happens when wolves leave a particular place like yellowstone. over last month, we have lost 11 yellowstone park wolves who spent host of their lives in the ark. they don't understatand park boundaries. they are subject to the management jurors action of the of thatwith -- management jurisdiction, and millions of visitors have seen 832. she was born in 2006. she wawas an extra gary wolf and she was particularly beautiful. she was one of the best hunters we had ever seen. she could take down ouout by herself. shshe was taken 15 miles out of the park are a hunter. this is a act that i is used to seeing thousands of people throughout the year and, but quite naÏve to humans and tolelerant of humans being close by. so she was at a disadvantage in a landscape where wolves were being hunted. >> what is happening to yellllowstone wowolves really highghlights what is hapappening throughout the r region. those are the most protected and well-managed wolves in the whole region and they are still getting shot. just imagine what is happening to wolves through

the yellowstone expedition he realized there was a problem. of eventsed the chain that changed things was the 1874 black kills expedition which custer led and which discovered gold in the black hills. there is argument over how much gold was found or if it was orugh to start a gold rush whether custer was a cheerleader for the gold rush or if he was in the pay of the railroads, there are a lot of theories. the gold rush happened. that, the black hills were supposed to be off-limits. they were supposed to be part of the reservation, part of the sacred ground for indians, it was not to be messed with. you cannot keep out people who are pursuing gold during the gold rush, particularly when you have an economic downturn which was happening at the time. there was the idea the government would buy the black hills from the indians. the indians were not interested in that. some of the indians -- this was the point at which sitting bull and others sentries trees are worthless with you guys. you're breaking your word with us, you're trying to get us to

and i sort of tour some of the more sort of iconic places in the united states, places like yellowstone, places like hoover dam where famously one of my very favorite stories where the movie san an dray yas -- san andreas which shows this catastrophic failure of the hoover dam, the filmmakers approached the hoover dam and said, listen, can we film this movie here? there's this earthquake, the dam collapses, you know, the colorado river careens out, you know, it's mayhem, and they said absolutely not, no, it's impossible that that would happen. the hoover dam is so overbuilt, you cannot do this. and so because they have screen and script approval, they could say, no, you're not allowed to film this here. and i said, really? why wouldn't you do this? some of you may be familiar with the movie transformers which is about this sort of megadeath robot who comes from a distinct galaxy, and he's this massive robot who's here to destroy the planet, and in our infinite wisdom in the 1920s, we see this deadly robot, and we decide what we need to do is create a holding facility to imprison this me
