urban development services ymca. first of all, let me thank you for your continued interest and support of the truancy assessment and referral center. we have been working since january to come up with a comprehensive strategy and plan and have actually begun to launch a pilot that my colleague, the director of the tarc center, will give you more details about. we have worked collaborative with the school district, the police department, the youth program urban services, ymca, juvenile probation, and the d a's office to develop a pilot that was launched late april through the end of the school year, and we targeted this pilot with two communities that contributed most to the chronic and habitual truant to population, and that was in bayview and the western addition, so with the baby station and the northern station in particular, and we then went out and did a lot of outreach to all the roll calls for both of the stations and talked with police officers. we have done outreach to the community resource centers, with a

they have been teaching dance at the chinatown ymca and other clubs in the chinatown area since they retired 17 years ago. five years ago, they began volunteering to teach ballroom dancing at the golden gate park for the senior center. they are extremely energetic and engaged in a wide variety of dancers and styles. this couple is a grid example of how when you give a little, you get a lot. we celebrate their an outstanding work and achievement and we thank them for their dedication to improving the lives of so many. [applause] >> i just want to say that my greatest passion in life is ballroom dancing. i hope my students share the same experience that i have. we certainly enjoy teaching them. they are such wonderful students. we have class twice a week. we get about 170 and month. i hope to keep on teaching them as long as i live. thank you very much for the certificate. . >> i am branch manager at the buchanan ymca. we have heard a lot about what is happening with the police, what was happening when foot patrols were cut back. i am going to go before that. i current live in the western addition and have lived in the north beach-chinatown area and now in the western addition. i remember when i lived on polk street when there was a beat officer or two i would see on a daily basis. they got to know me, i got to know them. when we talk about citizens trust the police or don't, i always trust the police because i know them personally. back in the 1970's, things had changed where you could get to know the police officers like i did growing up, so there was that continuity of the relationships that kids and thec community have with their officers. things seem to be going well now. working with the captain at the station, i havegreat relationships with the police officers, i know them and can call them at any time from the ymc or any community i know about. the question is, will this continue throughout

>> maybe ymca in oakland? i could be wrong. i'll ask my producer. back to you. >> thank you. >>> getting laid-off oakland police officers back on the job, is what the city is trying to do. but there is a catch. let's go to anne makovec in oakland this morning, where the city council voted last night to put a parcel tax plan on the november ballot. not only a paris the tax but several other taxes. here's what the city council passed last night. the council voted 5-3 to put a parcel tax on the november ballot in effect for three years. at $360 for four years it would cost property owners $14 40. also $2 a month for cell phones and an increase in marijuana taxes 10% on recreational use if that's allowed after that november vote. but the most controversial the parcel tax. the council voted 5-3 last night to put it on the ballot. it would be in effect for four years and it's $360 per year. it would cost property owners $1,440. but it could lead to the rehiring of the 80 police officers laid off earlier this month and prevent more than 100 more officers f
