the grant with ymca supports one connector program in chinatown. consumers enrolled in the program report feeling more connected to their community, better informed about the availability of other community based services, and report that program participation has contributed positively to their quality of life. similar to other das community service partners, both community living came pain and ymca had to modify their programs and have continued to support their clients' health and well-being through social connections. community living campaign and the ymca chinatown has pivoted many of their regularly scheduled in-person activities such as exercise classes, writing groups, and cooking classes, to on-line platforms. they both make wellness calls to their clients. and as i've said before, we don't know how long our community partners will need to provide modified programming, but we do know that social connections are essential for health and well-being of older adults and adults with disabilities, and it is especially important now. these connec

her father's name was william and worked for the ymca. you have to imagine the ymca as this vital organization with chapters all over the world, and he traveled all over the world. he had lunch at buckingham palace, although he also gave speeches in tokyo and switzerland and other places. he was a very conservative man, .ut a big activist as well hand things went hand in in the rhetoric of the late 19th century. adelina known as addie, she was one of three black women who went to europe in world war i with the black troops. there were hundreds and hundreds of white women who went to work and what we would think as a uso type of job. placed to unwind and so on. only three black women. when she came back, she wrote a best-selling book about the treatment of black soldiers during world war i. thing we mentioned about her she worked for the naacp as a field secretary, and her job was to go to towns, especially in the south, where the klan had become so dominant that the black community had become subdued. she traveled to these towns by hersel

with me now, david kisselbach from the ymca in new jersey.ady distributed 100,000 meals since the pandemic started. david, we obviously don't have quite as much time as we had planned for for this segment because of the breaking news, but we're happy to have you. i want to talk to you about the need here, you guys have been doing food drive events every tuesday since covid hit. about a month ago local outlets reported the lines were more than a mile long, some people waiting in line for seven hours. has demand increased in that time just in the last month? >> lindsey, thank you for having me and merry christmas. the scary part is since we started this, we were averaging 100 cars, 20 to 50,000 meals a week. and now every the last eight weeks we're averaging more than 500,000 meals since then. we're well over 200,000 meals a month. the lines are up to two miles long. and people are waiting four, five, six hours and also driving an hour to two hours to get to our place to get the food. >> my goodness. what are you hearing from some of these fami
