and it's my understanding that the ymca is in discussion with the san francisco unified school district on other supplemental food programming on treasure island. so, we're waiting to hear that from the y. great news. the construction training program graduated 13 candidates last thursday. and it was a great celebration. 75% of the graduates have already been placed in employment so we're excited about that. and in this coo cohort, we graduated three veterans and two women. we are looking at doing a youth-focused employment readiness workshop beginning this month. and then we have -- we'll be following up on the first emergency prep workshop that we did in some financial education workshops that will be held through the end of the calendar year. we are planning for a global clean-up day on saturday, september 18. the event will include clean-up of treasury island and lunch and a raffle. and we're in the process of talking with the treasure island sailing center since they're doing something similar to see if we can combine our efforts and really have an impact. we are also planning to c

examples of where i've seen is really strong over the last year is i've seen community partners like the ymca and the boys and girls club standup to give students experiences engaging with one another. i'm hearing about the workforce partners engaging with our high schools to give students opportunities to have internships and see what the job market is like to help them make life decisions. i saw private donors step up tremendously to provide laptops for students in a time of need last year. they stepped up with their own dollars and a different foundations and said where do you need us and to gather we were able to close the digital divide to do to that partnership as well. the invitation is always going to be there. it takes a village and in our country we saw the best over the last year and a half and i hope we can continue that to give our students the best opportunities to succeed. >> it is july, late july. school is due to start again and we recommend students go back to the classroom this fall, but every day we are talking about the delta variant and how people are being infected and

and one ymca cannot pick someone for another ymca. the same is true for a lot of affiliates on for-profit companies, big chains that are independently owned, they are not controlled, they can qualify for these funds. i can tell you a lot of organizations that are related on -- in the faith community through an umbrella, but they are not controlled so therefore the affiliate rules allow them to apply independently for these funds for as long as they can qualify. we knew that developing this program. we didn't want to change the affiliate rules because that would have been wrong. so what my colleague is requesting is just -- would be illegal for the -- the administration to say that we're not going to select a particular group because we don't particularly agree with what they are doing or how they operate. that's not how the rules work. that's not what you're allowed to do. so i regret that my colleague has raised these objections, i think it diminishes our credibility to tell our administrators to administer these programs fairly for

i like to start my days off by going for a run or going to the ymca in wilmington for a workout and then i head for the train station, biden station, and come down here to work with all of our colleagues and usually i have fall day of committee hearings and meetings and votes and almost every night i go back to union station and climb on a train and take the train the opposite way back to biden station in wilmington. it's a full day every day. i enjoy it because i like to be busy and get things done. mr. president, let me say in terms of getting things done, i have met my match and fortunately i met her about 13 years ago. she is always, without fail, demonstrates more energy in her small finger than i do in my whole body has been emily spain. it's incredible, her tenacity, strength, conviction, she is literally tireless and somehow manages to get it all done and more. she has an incredibly demanding job managing a staff of nearly 50 people, between our d.c. offices and our three offices back in the state of delaware dealing with the latest in congress often requires, as the presiding of
