let's bring in ynonne ndedge who has been covering the story for us. tell us about the latest the fact that the voting has been extended. what has happened in river state. >> well in the last few minutes we heard the independent national electoral commission in river state began to announce results for the governorship race. this is happening against a backdrop in what the opposition says is an event. he never took place. there were massive violence widespread malpractices and irregularities. they ledge that there was the snatching of sensitive materials from hundreds if not a few thousand polling stations in this state. they say that electoral materials were burnt. shooting incidents, many shooting incident in which many members they say is the opposition. we spoke some observers who are corroborating and supporting about what the opposition is saying about the floors. the opposition is saying that if results are announced, people should protest. no elections took place. it is a tense situation. it's a worrying situation. given the violence that we ha

ynonne ndedge is live in the nigerian capital, and one of the interesting things or details coming out about the incident is that some. women fought back. what light is na shedding on the roll they played. well this wouldn't be highly unusual, because we have known for some time that during the 6-year insurgency not only have people been kidnapped, they have been converted to extremism by boko haram militants. they have been forced in some instances to change their religion. it's a difficult scenario in which many have been brainwashed. in the circumstances. so it's not completely unsurprising. also the military spokesperson when he spoke to al jazeera earlier did say that the military are looking into whether some of these rescued women and children are relatives, wives, children of boko haram fighters whether they shared group's ideology and belief. it's not completely difficult to understand why some of those who are rescued may have arrested. the feel is some of these are victims, they have been brainwashed and kept in the forest against their will. there's a screening process that

ynonne ndedge is live in abuja. first of all, clear up some issues for us here. who are these women and girls. >> well the military promise to release photographs and more details of the individuals. all we know so far is there's an ongoing screening and profiling process. they are the words that the military is using to describe what is going on to identify who the individuals are. late tuesday night nigeria's military spokesperson gave an interview to jazz, and he was probed about the identity of the individuals, and he was probed but he said some of the individuals could be the wives and children of boko haram fighters. when asked about the like to chibok and the 200 or so girls kidnapped, he said because of that profiling process that is going on, the military are not ruling out the possibility that in the midst of the 293 individuals, there could be one or two girls from the chibok school but they are not sure for now and we are waiting for details and photographs that they say they are going to hand over to the media. >>> thank you ynonne ndedge. saudi arab

ynonne ndedge is live in abuja. . >> tell us more about the good news. >> initially we got a text message from nigerian military personnel, a colonel in the north-east saying that 293 women and girls had been rescued from the forest and military operations were continuing, and specified of those rescued, they did not include the chibok schoolgirls, the more than 200 schoolgirls, kidnapped in april. 219 of them are still missing. an hour or so later in an interview on al jazeera, a military spokesperson said they couldn't be categoric about that. there was a screening and profiling process ongoing, and the military were not ruling out the penalty that along the 293 rescued, there could potentially be schoolgirls from chibok among them. there was a process going on to identify them. the military spokesperson who appeared on al jazeera said there was a possibility that some of those rescued could be the wives and children of boko haram fighters living in the forest. we are waiting for further information and details. the ministry are promising to release photographs of the individuals so tha

ynonne ndedge covers the elections. earlier on there was reports of violence. >> that's right. we are hearing that a local television station, channels had its crew cameraman and correspondent roughed up the camera kit was taken away. it's been returned by supporters of the ruling party. there's other word of electoral materials not arriving. several polling stations around 4,000 statewide, and in one incident, there's a dispute about the fact that result sheets have not shown up. the ballot papers are there, not the result sheets which are critical. where i am things are peaceful and calm but turn out is low, less than 100 people have showed up. they were here earlier for the accreditation process. in this process voters have to be accredited and they come back later for voting. at the moment most left and 100 or so people that showed up have gone home. these elections are absolutely critical and the river state is the epicentre of the party, the party of goodluck jonathan and the congress of muhammadu buhari because of that wealth talked about. 50 people have been killed. it'

the nigerian army rescued more women than girls in the north of the country, and the latest from ynonne ndedge. what are the military telling you about this operation? >> well when speaking we have gotten more information about what is going on and what they are saying this time is 160 individuals have been rescued from boko haram in the forest, considered to be the last stronghold. in this particular operation 100 children were arrested and 60 female adults. during the fighting military are saying one woman was killed, one soldiers, eight female adults were injured and four soldiers in a rare interview, the military spokesman has been giving us further details about operations against boko haram in the area. >> there are hostages who are there. and with more information about intelligence relevant has been finally useful. at the moment they have been moved from the forest. we are trying to seek relief from the trauma of living in the forest that long. and additionally there's heat in the forest. a vast portion. and a lot of effort is on. much in the forest. >> now, it's not possible to indepe

ynonne ndedge is covering the elections, what happened there as far as the violence and voting is concerned. >> unfortunately the electoral process seems to be thwart with problems. we reported on the gunfire shot by police this morning at a station where electoral materials were supposed to be distributed to 4,000 polling stations. there were no materials there. we are getting reports of 2-4 people dead voters. one beheaded. another one shot. it's not clear if it's accurate it's difficult to independently verify what we hear from voters media. one police officer has been killed. he was hacked to death. the police have been able to confirm that is the truth. the media are under attack. a local tv station had a crew attacked. a local radio station, a reporter was severe beaten up by supporters of the ruling party. there has been reports of widespread irregularities taking place, snatching of electoral materials, and electoral office was burned down where materials were inside. no election staff showed up. election staff are there in other place, but no materials. where i am a primary school
