[applause] >> this year's mlk day youth award goes to yolanda rene king.ised in georgia to her parents, martin luther king iii and andrea waters king. she grew up in atlanta and was named after her onto. she is the first and only grandchild of martin luther king junior and caretta scott king. many noticed the similarities between her and her grandfather. she took the stage at the 2018 march for our lives student demonstration in washington, d.c. she talked about gun control, where she opened up with "i have a dream where enough is enough." "my grandfather had a dream that is four little children would not be judged by the color of their skin but the content of their character. i have a dream that enough is enough." or perhaps when she spoke about racial equity on the steps of the 2020 march on washington. yolanda is using her voice this mlk day to call attention to the importance of issues such as voting rights, gun control and so many other issues and why younger generations should be involved in the fight. congratulations yolanda on keeping your grandfat

king and coretta scott king's granddaughter, 13-year-old granddaughter, yolanda renee king. she's an activist for voting rights and justice. the director of youth engagement at the drum major institute and on tuesday she will follow in her grandfather's footsteps by speaking at the national cathedral. yolanda? >> thank you. to all of those who are here to honor my grandfather's 93rd year, the only way we know how through action. i am the proud granddaughter of dr. martin luther king, jr. and coretta scott king. i am also the proud daughter of martin luther king iii and andrea waters king. although i never got to meet my grandfather, his lessons and drive for justice are in me. stories about my grandfather's leadership were passed down to me at the dinner table, told to me at bedtime, and shared doing long road trips. but most importantly, his lessons are passed down to me and young people across the country during moments in history like this one that call for all of us to work together and take action to correct injustice and advance equality. one important lesson i learned
