we went out yosemite valley. i took, in the view of point, i don't know if we have images of if we're queuing up images today or not but anyway you probably know that view of inspiration point where you look out and you see a bridal fall on the right and el capitan on the left and true to its name, it inspired me and i knew that i wanted to spend time there and. then as i was at the history of the and and how it came to be, you know, one of our great national landscapes, i'd discovered that john muir was, the person who embodied the yosemite valley story. so he was also inspired i know from reading your book by yosemite valley, you have a reading about that. you want to tell us about his experience. sure. you know, encountering it. so i i first experienced it as many people do through that gorgeous view from inspiration point. muir went there, first of all, in 1868. he walked there from san francisco and went into the valley in winter. there it was very snowy. there were bears. people said he might make it out al

new video now from yosemite national park.today, the parks waterfalls are putting on an incredible show as snowmelt is pouring into the merced river, the most famous yosemite falls. of course, it's more than 2400 ft. tall cascades, including nevada falls, it nearly 600 ft. many of them can be accessed by visitors. if you're up for a fairly strenuous hike, people are crowding the park to see them. major rockslide has shut down part of highway 1 20 inside yosemite with the summer season just around the corner. the stretch of highway 1 20 is closed between big oak flat and merced grove until at least mid june, possibly into july. footage from caltrans shows the rock and debris there covering the road. that's a result of the severe weather this past winter. there are detours in place to get around the closure. well merryweather looks like we could have some thunderstorms pop up across parts of the sierra into the weekend. lots of the sierra. whether it's talking about the very weather take a look at the highest from this afternoon

watch out if you're going to yosemite or tahoe because the river merced river, particularly in yosemite national park at paho, no bridge is expected to rise above flood stage later on tonight. so flood stages 10 ft. it's expected to go above 10 ft . right now. it's around nine ft. and then it's going to continue to go up and down, but saturday expected to rise to about 12 ft. flood warnings continue. for that river flood advisory up to the northwest of that in the central sierra right now, you are seeing those thunderstorms firing up with precipitation coming down right now live doppler seven showing you just some patches of fog and you can see it on the golden gate bridge. it was sunny earlier, but now it's socked in blue skies from santa cruz and emeryville zephyr cove. hazy sunshine from our emeryville camera. you can see just a beautiful day. coastal fogs spreads overnight areas of fog and drizzle the next two mornings, and it's going to be breezy and cooler the next few afternoons right on through the end of the work week and heading into the weekend, so the fog will fill back in.

and coming up on the kron 4 morning news, yosemite visitors can catch a break.k after the reopening another crack in the park's plans. >> and we're back at 5.45. another tough break for people planning on heading to yosemite national park this spring. big oak flat road is closed for repairs. and boy, you can see why giant crack going right down the middle park. officials say it's about 200 feet long and 4 feet deep and it continues from highway one 20 into the national park and it is forcing a closure from just inside the park boundary. toomer said grove repairs to keep that where we'll keep that road shut down until they think mid-june or perhaps july. and it's just the latest in a string of issues for the park. it's 7 was forced to close last month for more than 3 weeks because of all the heavy snowfall. and then they were close again last week because of flooding concerns for now, park officials are recommending using the south and west entrances to access the valley. >> record a year. yeah. as effects like that. thing. all right. well, it's hard to keep trac

. >> that is why they had to close the camp around yosemite valley, a lot more snow in that part of the sierra. like twice as much. so that is going to be a developing story, and we will continue to monitor that one, we will stay on top of that forecast if you have any plans to go to yosemite over the past couple weeks. the snowmelt is being felt here, not in the city right now, as we take a look. it is 66 degrees , right on the mark for average. we are going to use dublin as the example for what most inland valleys are doing, it is 80 degrees over here. that is the current number. we are right at that point in the day anyway, and since we top out around 88 here for pleasanton, livermore, let's look ahead, and you can see how much cooler you are about to get, by the time we get to thursday and friday, back down into the mid-70s. here is everybody's daytime highs today, we are going to experience a cooldown, it just won't be as dramatic as the places that had the warm-up so much. the northbay valley and south bay, in the low 80s today, your numbers will come back down into the upper 70s.
