now, a separate problem is youngkin is winning if you look at the "washington post" poll today, youngkin is winning independents by a large margin. joe biden carried them by a similar margin. i think it was 18 points in 2020. that's a separate issue. she's trying to get democrats to come out and vote on the theory that republicans may be more motivated. yeah, she's invoking the stakes. but there's a down side to it because if you say this is going to tell us what's going to happen in '22 and '24, if the results come back badly on tuesday, well, you've written the story. >> the fact is, margaret, president biden won this state by ten points. what does it say about the political environment that's neck and neck? >> john, it's so true, how you go from a ten-point margin of victory to a dead heat says a lot about the fact that joe biden's the president now and guess what, there's still a pandemic and the economy's in bad shape and democrats haven't passed their infrastructure plan and, you know, the pandemic didn't help donald trump in his final months as president and now the enduring pande

we have seen a number of issues really be centerpieces of both mcauliffe youngkin and youngkin 's campaignsled parents rights has become a huge issue for youngkin. youngkin seizing upon these very contentious and sometimes dangerous school board meetings that we have seen in loudoun county, virginia, and across the country, very much saying parents have a right to be involved in their children's education, that elected school board officials are essentially political figures trying to influence the virginia students education. youngkin seizing upon terry mcauliffe's, the last month when she said she did not belve parents should be involved in a child's education in the school system. terry mcauliffe very much pushing back against that same of course he believes parents should have some say and at their children's education and very much touting the fact that he launched his campaign on edation, pledging to spend $2 billion per year on virginia public school system. that is one issue we are saying. also sing the nationwide issue over abortion rights very much seeping into this race. you have

up to this point, youngkin has kept trump at arm's length, rarely mentioning him on the trail. if trump stumps for youngkin on monday, will he use the final four hours to help the republican in what has become a very close race, or will trump continue to make false claims about the last election that he lost, including doubling down on this ridiculous assertion that his 10-point loss to biden in virginia as as a result of election fraud. >> i didn't campaign there because i was told you can't win there, but i was very close in virginia. probably because i've heard bad things about their voting, very, very bad things. it was largely mail-in and i've heard a lot of bad things about virginia. i would say i would win virginia easily. >> trump lost and he lost big. a top election official in virginia told me just last night there was no evidence of these, quote, very bad things that trump claims. >> i want to be perfectly clear, that there was no fraud in 2020. >> there is a lot on the line in virginia's gubernatorial race, and that is why both campaigns are pulling out all the stop

one is youngkin pulls this off which would be a huge political earthquake. then in terms for a republican conservative you have to win floridaat and ohio and georgia. georgia a lot more democrats even in your old district. then north carolina and then pennsylvania, wisconsin and michigan. then you have to go out on the west coast in arizona and nevada. it's never easy. for a republican you have to run the table. if this one week from tonight youngkin pulls this off, did that reconfigure the electoral map in the country? >> sure. i don't believe in artificial gains. in 1980 jimmy carter was a disaster and ted cruz said it right when he said that biden combines mcgovern's radicalism with carter's incompetence. reagan won the biggest victory against an incumbent president in modern history. the country gets to change. even in northern virginia -- i live in mcclain. in northern virginia. you go to the local gas station and you are stunned at how much you pay. and at the store i talked to somebody who paid more than twice as much for a chicken as they paid 3 mont

i've met glenn youngkin.y espouses the policies of former president trump, but his personality is diametrically different. the focus of his campaign is on the issues that are important to latinos and everyday working virginias, jobs, pocketbook issues, public safety and education. he has been traveling the state driving that message home and i think that is critical. it's important to remember, boris, you both know, terry mcauliffe has been around the commonwealth for many years. he has 95% name i.d. in the state of virginia, and he has barely broken the 50% threshold in polling since he has been running for this race. right now, with the real clear politics average at 2.2% in favor of mcauliffe within with the margin of error, this is going to be a very tight race. you did a great job of showing them out on the campaign trail, connecting with these voters and talking about the issues and we've had youngkin as you've said more than 20 outreach events to latinos. the key is to continue the ground game, speakin
