that is important to our community in northeast ohio, specifically the city of warren, city of youngstown dealing with the auto task force and the bankruptcy that have been going on in the auto industry. and the community that i come from has been adversely affected, not just over the past few months or few years, but really over the past 30 years. we have seen the loss of a tremendous amount of jobs. the home of delphi started many years ago by the packard brothers, steel mills, have been adversely affected over the past 30 years, but specifically eefer the past few months and new years given the problems in the auto industry. every day we wake up and read the newspapers, we have been getting bad news about layoffs. a steel company goes idle, a thousand jobs. general motors takes over the third shift, second shift. delphi went from 15,000 employees 20 or 30 years ago, down to just a few today. and a group that has been adversely affected with maybe not as much attention as should have been given are the delphi salary employees who have spent 2/3 of their careers working for delphi, worki

and there have been some important concrete efforts one of them was undertaken 30 years ago in youngstownohio, where u.s. steel was going to shut down a major facility that was at the heart of this steal town and there were substantial protests by the work force and the community and there was an effort to bring to the courts the principle that stakeholders should have the highest priority. well, the effort failed that time. but with enough popular support it could succeed. and right now is a proefficiency time to revive such efforts although too old be necessary that we have to do the this to overcome the effects of this concentrated campaign to drive our own history and culture out of our minds. there was a very dramatic illustration of the success of this campaign just a few months ago. in february, president obama decided to show his solidarity with working people. he went to illinois to give a talk at a factory. the factory he chose was the caterpillar corporation. now, that was over the strong objections of church groups, human rights groups who protested -- who were protesting cate
