you can't do it by yourselves. you need follow veers. >> we do. we need about 500 volunteers. they'll be serving the homeless, canvassing the streets, the parks, the encampment and lots of training beforehand but we do need a lot of volunteers all throughout santa clara county in every city. >> talk about this effort. it's a huge effort. it's a huge undertaking. how does it look? >> it's doable. we've all aligned and set this common goal of housing 1,000 chronically homeless, the most vulnerable. what i think is so different about the campaign is the whole public health focus. the we are triaging our resources and we want to make sure we house those most vulnerable to dying on the streets. last year we had 51 homeless die in santa clara county and we just want to make sure we start target i targeting our resources in housing those that need it the most first. >> and in part of our video that we're showing is video of the annual ceremony where we honor the homeless who we've lost in the streets. it's a beautiful ceremony that involves candles representing each of those victims.

and if you could please introduce yourselves, that would be great. >> i work with kathryn at the grand project. i wanted to touch on a couple of things. first and foremost, i am grateful to everyone that contributed to the project. i wanted to say that the garden project does help. there were a lot of people that if they were not at the garden project, they would be on the streets. i know that if it was not for the garden project, they would be on the streets. they were working on cutting planned parenthood, which i do not think is a good thing. without that -- i do not think that some of those females, and i was looking -- listening to a lot of females on the art project. i wanted to say how the project helps students and gives us job skills and stuff. many of the men and women that work with us, if they were not with the garden project, they would be on the streets. many of the men and women go to jail just because they are on the streets. personally, for me, my mother recently lost her job. i do not know if you understand what it is like to take care of your children with no income.
