it's already made the first landfall yesterday across the yucatan peninsula right here. now it's pushing back across the open waters like charlie said. this is the bay of campeche and it could strengthen to another category 1 hurricane before it's all said and done as it heads over to southern mexico. right now though a tropical storm. a strong thunderstorm. and the winds sustained at about 70 miles an hour. it is moving to the west at about 14 miles an hour. moisture is up close to home here. 68 for a dew point in baltimore. so we are feeling very balmy outside. sticky. 74 in d.c.. and we're at 70 in easton along the eastern shorement once again that humid weather is going to get us. as we look at urbanna we take you outside and you can see a little bit of patchy fog this morning. that's been the scenario as well. you put it into motion and we can see the sun is out there but also mixing out with some clouds as we go throughout the day. so that's been the scenario all week long and going to continue it even wrapping up the week. 65 degrees right now in towson. edgewood

then we run into a hurricane warning for the yucatan peninsula. so this system is likely to make landfall in the yucatan peninsula tuesday morning, early, and that will be local time. after making landfall, you're going to see it downgrade to a tropical storm again, but then over the gulf, it could become a hurricane once again before making a second landfall in southeastern mexico here. so we're talking about some very strong winds. gusts now up to about 120 kilometers an hour. remember, this is an intensifying system, and we are going to be seeing for much of eastern and central america upwards of 100millimeters, maybe up to 200, and, in fact, locally, you could see 300 millimeters of rain from this system. let's head back up to the bigger picture. not too much in the way of rainfall across the u.s. and canada today. there is going to be some monsoonal moisture coming across new mexico, again, that could lead to problems with flash flooding. we're drying out toward the northeast of the u.s. unfortunately, though, storms are going to continue thr

you'll remember this is the hurricane that made landfall yesterday in the yucatan peninsula. it is just about to move over the water into the gulf of mexico right now. moving west at 20 kilometers an hour. the wind speeds are at 85. so there will be stronger gusts with that as well. it doesn't look like it's going to energize to a hurricane status again. just staying a tropical storm and making a second landfall in the next 24 hours on the southeastern coast of mexico. rainfall totals in the last 24 hours have been around 70 millimeters of rain. we're going to be adding to that into the next 24 hours. northern belize and northern guatemala, as well as parts of the southern yucatan peninsula still dealing with heavy rain. in the mountainous regions, you could see totals up to about 300 millimeters and that spells real danger for mudslides. all right. in terms of the big picture here, canada and the u.s. we're going to see some potent storms moving through the great lakes region and up toward the northeast over the next 24 hours. you could see damaging winds as well as hail wit

mexico's yucatan peninsula bracing for the worst. folks on the u.s.f coast also watching ernesto closely. meteorologist maria molina is live in the fox extreme weather center. >> hey, gregg. it looks like basically tropical storm ernesto could become a hurricane later on this afternoon into tonight before making landfall late tonight into the overnight hours across belize and and parts of the yucatan peninsula. it is starting to organize. pressure as dropped. by 11:00 a.m. the national hurricane center, more storms blowing up here earlier this morning. it is slowly starting to organize itself and hoping to become a hurricane later on today. we're expecting big impacts across belize and the yucatan peninsula. unfortunately up to a foot of rain locally in some spots. that will bring in a flash flood threat and mudslide threat. landfall is expected late tonight as the storm system moves over land. it will start to weaken. 60 mile-an-hour winds expected by early wednesday morning and reemerge over the bay of campeche thursday into friday and make landfall

which is really cupping veoming close to the yucatan peninsula. hurricane warnings here. likely to run out of steam over it runs over land. once it hits the warm water of the gulf, likely to become a hurricane once again and make a second landfall end of the week, likely friday local time in southeastern mexico. now, currently moving at 24 kilometers an hour west. wind speeds at 140 kilometers an hour. in addition to the strong winds, with, stronger gusts also, you need to bear in mind, we are going to be seein a lot of heavy rain. anywhere between 100, 150 millimeters of rain possible. up in mountainous regions though you could see as much as 300 millimeters of rain in the next 24 hours. and of course, that will lead to a very high risk for flooding, landslides, mudslides, particularly in those mountainous regions. okay. let's take a look at the bigger picture here. across the u.s./canada. you are going to be seeing storms up to the northeast. up to the great lakes region. and in towards the eastern coast of canada. nothing to severe today. will be unstable though. the s

this is ernesto which is heading towards the yucatan peninsula. especially possibly making landfall in and around belize in the next 48 hours. accumulating hefty amounts of rainfall here as well and then moving over a land mass, moving towards the gulf of mexico. perhaps also in jamaica we found 100 millimeters in the past 24 hours, but additional of the similar amounts will be found here as well. coastal flooding is going to be just very high. also storm surges and high waves to be aware of. temperaturewise, here across the canada and americas regions, oklahoma city down to 30. still very hot, though, and phoenix reaching up to 44. excessive heat warnings are posted up here. moving over to the european continent, the developing low pressure system is going to be affecting much of the scandinavian peninsula with some stormy conditions. and then the cold front, this is a strong one. that will be just sagging and sweeping across poland and the baltic states. and the gusts could reach as much as 80 kilometers per hour. very heavy rain could be found
