. >> reporter: surveillance video obtained by the "daily mail" shows long's hyundai pull up to yung's asian massage. he confessed to gunning down four people inside, two of them asian women. moments later, long walked back to his car and drove away. then bedlam as dazed and wounded customers come out and police rush to reports of gunshots. from cherokee county, long traveled roughly 30 miles to atlanta and at two separate massage spas shot down four more people, all asian women. according to a local korean newspaper, the victim at the aroma therapy spa opened the door thinking long was a customer, but he opened fire, and she was shot dead. >> he did frequent those two locations. >> reporter: atlanta police say it's not clear if the killer targeted specific people. the investigation into a possible hate crime, is that still on the table? >> our investigation is looking at everything. so nothing is off the table for our investigation. >> reporter: there's been a national backlash against the way cherokee county law enforcement initially pointed to long's motive. >> he has some -- some i

. >> and 63-year-old yung ayu, who was a licensed massage therapist, recently back to work after beingf last year at the onset of the pandemic. she was excited about returning to the spa, according to her sons, elliott and robert. >> joining us right now is john yang, president and executive director of advancing justice asian american justice center. john, good morning. first off, it's been such a hard week. how are you and how is your community doing? >> thank you very much for asking that question. it has been absolutely a tragedy for all of us. and we're coping. and certainly, there's a lot of pain, there's a lot of anguish and there's a lot of anger in our community over this past week, but frankly, over this past year, what we've seen directed against the asian-american community. >> john, talk us through the whole nuance of something being labeled as a hate crime. this particular case, so far, has not been called that, but police are not necessarily ruling out. why is it so difficult to label this? we know what the suspect was allegedly there for and why he picked these places.
