z, our star would be 3. that's not actually true. we did run that experiment. it's like this fleischman/roberts thing. as long as you allow us to estimate the coefficient of z, the data screams that the natural rate is low. so when i get rid of z, what happens is the coefficient on g star goes up to 2. the data is trying to get it in there. with a slowdown in productivity, potential growth, that's the way it happens. i will tell you, there's a nice paper from the richmond fed, thomas lubek and vatis. they do a stochastic volatility kind of model. the fansiest bayesian estimation with everything moving around at once. they end up with the estimates at the current natural rate of interest, which are no zero. it's a half percentage point, a little above ours. it's very consistent with ours over the last 35 years. that gives me a little bit of confidence. any model now is wrong. but those you do it all the same ways, you find patterns. >> does any model find that the rate will rise? >> if you assume. >> if you assume it. okay.
