abc seven news south bay reporter zach fuentes spoke with a friend of the 12 year old and has more details from police on what happened. >> a small memorial is growing at the corner of camden and lee avenues in san jose. just after 420 tuesday afternoon. a 12 year old boy was hit and killed while crossing the street. >> 12 year old was riding a non-electric or non-motorized scooter northbound across camden when they were struck by a truck that was driving westbound san jose, police say that the driver of the truck stopped and is cooperating with the investigation. the person that was driving the truck did have a green light and was just proceeding through the intersection when they unfortunately collided with the child, police say they don't believe speed or alcohol were factors. >> this 13 year old jack said he was with the 12 year old when it happened. jack and his mother came back to pay their respects and add to the vigil, though they didn't want to give an interview, they said that the 12 year old, who was still not been identified by authorities, was a nice, funny boy who loved baske

abc seven news reporter from the south bay, zach fuentes has more on that.roject is expected to be finished. >> a project decades in the making has now received a rare influx of federal funding. the bart silicon valley extension is the largest single public infrastructure project in santa clara county. its final phase is slated to bring four more stations to the south bay, including downtown san jose. vta will own the facilities, and bart will operate and maintain it. >> people can get all around the region, know they have a reliable way to get there, and have a transportation so you can live in the south bay and work anywhere else in the region, and you can get jobs to your jobs in silicon valley. >> but the road to finishing the project has been bumpy. that includes delays and increasing costs, all while bart expects to run out of $1.9 billion in federal and state assistance by april of 2026. but friday, local leaders got a call from the federal transportation administration. billions in funding is being granted to help finish the project. >> $5.1 billion.

abc seven news reporter zach fuentes is following the story. >> take a look at this video. slowed down. it shows the white pickup truck traveling the wrong way on northbound highway 85. the chp saying that truck traveled in the wrong direction for several minutes before the tragic crash at the highway 8587 interchange, officials said. they first got calls around 340 in the afternoon that monday. >> some of the first calls that we had put the pickup truck in the area of 85 and saratoga, which is several miles. >> chp confirming that a 47 year old woman and 14 year old boy were killed in that crash, though the santa clara county coroner has not officially named the victims. on tuesday, this email was sent to families at the school. the boy attended. it stated that he was in ninth grade and that his family said he was happy at the school. he only got to attend for a short time. the new school year started less than two weeks before the crash. officials say the driver of the truck was a 39 year old man. he was hospitalized with major injuries. the pickup had florida license pla

abc seven news south bay reporter zach fuentes has more. >> savor and see. coffins carried by community members were just some of the sites that could be seen outside regional medical center in the last few months. just some of the ways a coalition of patients and advocates fought to keep the community's only trauma center. >> our community needs the trauma care center on the east side. there is not any other trauma care in the east side at this moment. >> hca healthcare, the company that owns regional medical center, announced plans earlier this year to close the trauma center. then, the plans changed from a full closure to a downgrade in resources. the hospital said that the closure and changes were due to a decline in utilization that downgrade was effective august 12th. but on wednesday, the county made its major announcement. >> the county and hca healthcare have reached a preliminary agreement for the county to acquire regional medical center in east san jose. >> the county now plans to not only restore trauma services, along with stroke and heart atta
