don't let him escape and then he finds zachary taylor. so but i think i tried to be as careful as i could not letting any bias enter into. i didn't think about who i might find as mentors when i went back and sort of thought about these patterns. i tried to read the diaries and documents to see what was emerging so i tried to stay true tothat although i'm sure ultimately not perfectly . but i think in the end for lincoln , it's a surprise time and again for many people that when they think lincoln is down, he's not down. he's not thought to be a front-runner in the senate but every time he seemed to surprise people and it's these qualities that we will discover later are there . many people at the time don't see it. obviously his assassination makes him into a martyr which feeds into the legend. we can't escape that. >> thank you for that and thanksfor the great question . the last word is to you and there's so many wonderful questions from our friends in the audience and i'm going to note mindy cohen who says how does frederick douglass
