zain asher more from the new york stock exchange. regardless of the weather, business keeps on moving on wall street. >> i feel so lucky to be warm in the new york stock ex-change. i feel so sorry for others. the dow is up about 60 points or so, and it shows it is stabilizing. yesterday we saw those triple-digit losses, the dow ended lower by 135 points maim because traders don't expect we'll see the same gains we saw last year so immediately when they got to work, first day back they took a chance to lock in some gains. when i talk to traders i hear the same thing, buckle up because 2014 is not for are the faint of heart, expect to see some volatility. we are expected overall a gain of 5% to 10% this year but possibly also a market correction and that's important because a lot of people are saying if i follow the herd and jump into equities and then we get this massive pullback, am i going to lose my share? it's a fair question. the trends overall when we see the market in january go higher, that does seem to bode well for the rest

zain asher is at laguardia.held this media call not too long ago. >> reporter: they wanted to really sort of take the time to explain why this particular winter storm proved so tricky for them. they're saying look, 80% of our flights originate or touch down in new york city or boston. therefore you have a massive winter storm hit the eervast co, it does affect them disproportionately. jfk was closed several hours due to inability to remove snow. they talked about these new faa rules that required pilots to get more rest. they're saying it's not the rules itself that proved so tricky, it was having to implement the rules right in the middle of a winter storm. that was also tricky for them as well. but they did take the steps to preemptively cancel flights because they wanted to protect the crews as well. but the most important thing for them right now is really protecting customer loyalty and winning back those customers. >> what about those customers? what are jetblue passengers being told right now? >> reporter

cnn's zain asher is at the new york stock ex-change for the first trading day of 2014. ar, zain. >> happy new year, fred. >> what's in store for today? >> most analysts expect momentum to continue but probably not with the same gusto as in 2013. you're seeing the market down slightly right now so it looks as though traders are proceed preceding the year with caution. the s&p 500 rose 30% in 2013, 52 record highs on the dow. i asked traders what is the biggest thing on your horizon for 2014 in a lot of them are saying a market correction is actually long overdue so they are proceeding with some caution. cnn money did survey about two dozen analysts about what they expect for 2014, half of them expect a 5% to 10% gain, a fraction of what we saw in 2013, 36% expect a gape of less than 5% but most analysts expect the markets to rise. it wasn't a good year for stra traditional investments last year for gold but we expect stocks to be the cool kid in the market. fred? >> okay, good advice, good way to get the new year started. thanks so much, zain. >>> meantime a massive nor'e
