zeke emanuel msnbc contributor and former special adviser on policy to the obama administration. welcome both. first to you, robert, if you were behind the podium today, what would you be saying about healthcare.gov? >> i think what they have said yesterday and clearly with the president being out there today, there is a subtle message that the website is functioning in a much better place because they understand that if they do an event that draws attention to health care and the website that traffic will greatly increase. so they clearly are demonstrating with today's events the necessity, i think, of today's events the digital architecture of healthcare.gov is greatly improved because they have confidence they can talk about the website and it won't crash. >> but zeke, what about the possible pitfalls down the road? should they be seriously worried? the lead story in the "washington post" is that there are enrollment errors people don't even know about and this starting january 1st when they think they are going to get health care could become a problem if they don't have insu

yes. >> zeke, here is how i define enrollment.an hold up your insurance card and show it to me. or show it whatever you are going to show a doctor when you go into a doctor's office. an id number, whatever that is. i am not sure who has that at this point. the insurance companies is not -- not perfectly worked out yet. and -- there still is some paper problems. i know that they're working very carefully and closely with the insurance scum pacompanies to me the people that signed up are on the insurance company rolls. you are right, the actual, you know what you need to do is pay that first month premium. and people who signed up, and still haven't paid that first month premium are not guaranteed coverage on january 1. again i know they're going back to them and trying to make sure it is not a mistake. and trying to get them to complete the traps actinsaction. this is an ongoing process. and every moment taking the temperature, not sure you are going to get the exact right number. i think the important thing is we need a big push.

>> zeke, the numbers are still a little vague. they can't tell us how many people have purchased health insurance, how many haven't. they can tell us how many people have made a selection off the menu but have they executed it? have they paid for it? do i have an i.d. number with an insurance company? that number seems to be elusive. >> it is elusive and there is still work to do on the back end. but remember that the real number is at the end, march 31st, 2014, where seven million people will get insurance through the websites, california, kentucky, connecticut, and others. and that's really the number that we need to keep our eye on, is it going to be seven million or more than seven million and are a fair number going to be young people between 19 and 35. those are the key valuables to keep your eye on. >> krystal, the president said he was shocked that these interest groups out there are monitoring these campaigns to get young people to not buy health insurance and then he gave them a bunch of rational reasons why you might wa

zeke emanuel appeared on "meet the press." >> in the long run, over the next few years and to the end of the decade, this is going to have a dramatic improvement. it's going to lower costs. you're going to have competition in the exchanges. that's already keeping insurance costs down and going to keep them down further. you're having improvements in the health care system. hospitals have to work on readmissions. >> reporter: so the big question is, what does this all mean? right now we only have an ecdotl evidence. we talked to a few people saying they had a positive experience. they were able to get on to the site, to enroll. so that is what we are hearing from people. but in terms of hard figures, we're going to have to wait a while because the white house only releases figures once a month. so we'll likely get that in another two weeks. the next major deadline is december 23rd. that's when folks have to enroll in order to get coverage by january 1st. the site will be flooded in and around that date. the question is, will the site be able to support far more than 50,000 users. that

zeke emanuel, said on fox news to chris wallace, he said, "well what the president really should have said" -- this is his exact quote, "if you want to pay more for your insurance company that covers your doctor, you can do that." well, i don't know what dr. emanuel's looking at and you may be able to find your doctor for more money. but in our state, there's some of the health care providers that aren't on the exchange. in new hampshire, i read the other day more than half of the hospitals in new hampshire aren't on the exchange. so if your doctor happened to work for more than half of the hospitals in new hampshire, there is no amount of money you can pay on the exchange and keep your doctor because your doctor's no longer available through the way that you're told by the health care act that you can get insurance as an individual. the president's promise that my plan, he said, "begins by covering every american. if you already like your health insurance, the only thing that will change for you under this part is the amount of money you will spend on premiums and that will be less."

not so many words a couple of different ways and now there's basically a cleanup on aisle two and zekere trying to do it. and basically, they're saying that you're going to have to pay extra to get the doctor that you still have. there's still a question whether that is possible. basically, what we're seeing in reality is that a lot of these choices, when you go on to the exchanges, are narrowed. and even if you're paying more, it's not necessarily clear that the doctor that you have will be covered in the plan that you get based on what is in the exchanges. and as ed just mentioned, they do change and just by what we've seen so far in looking at the exchange across the country, exchanges across country, a lot of people are seeing that the deductibles in particular are going up significantly and maybe their premiums might be less but their deductibles are significantly greater. jon: for the last couple of months, the big story about obamacare has been that the website hasn't been working very well. now they've got some changes, they've got some fixes. the website seems to be working a
