joining us now is matt zeller, he's actually major zeller now. with his interpreter.unded the group no one left behind which advocates for bringing afghan interpreters to the u.s.. major zeller, thank you so much for being here. i appreciate your time. >> thank you for having me, ma'am. >> what are you hoping to hear from president biden tomorrow, and do you have any expectations of what you will hear? >> i hope he says the words, we're gonna get them to guam. guam is the best place to bring these people. the island stands ready to receive them and has a historical precedent having been used previously in other evacuations at the end of the vietnam war, in 1996 we actually moves a condition for a couple of months. we want to say get them to guam. but we don't want them to say is we're gonna move them to some third country that we have to negotiate a refugee camp that might end up being there in perpetuity. we want them on u.s. soil where they belong in safety so that we can process their cases without having to worry about the taliban death squads that are hunting the

troops withdraw from afghanistan and the taliban hunts down our allies matt zeller now, truman projectnd in afghanistan, matt, thank you this just the first group to make it out. there are so many others is the u.s. doing enough to get them out of there? >> no, this one plane, which is a great start, you know, let's celebrate what it is, even a month ago this was not something that we thought was going to come to fruition, but that one plane represents 0.3% of all of the people that we've gotten out so far there are 99.7% of the people remaining, and that's about 88,000 people according to the government report that was just released earlier this week about how many applicants are still in the system we only have a plan to evacuate people who can get to kabul. half of the population that we know that needs evacuation are outside of kabul the taliban controlled the roads between the cities and there simply aren't enough between the cities to move them back and forth, and the afghan military can't do it. they're losing the country actively to the taliban. it's come down to this, either t

army captain matt zeller about the importance of doing right by these afghans and if he worries the whiteefforts are too little too late. >> the administration has just been completely lacking on the key details of who gets to go in this evacuation, where do they get to go and when do they get to leave. the other thing that we all are wondering as advocates who have been pushing for this vaccination, why are we doing it now at the 11th hour, why didn't we do it over the last four or five months when we still had forces in afghanistan. the association of wartime allies recently surveyed the afghan special visa applicant population in afghanistan and what they found is that over 49% of our afghan wartime allies currently live outside of the city of kabul. the biden administration seems to only have a plan to evacuate people who are in kabul. so what are we going to do about, you know, the other 40,000 people or so that are not in kabul. there doesn't seem to be a plan for them. >> how do they even get to a rally point. this is part of the question. too late. when it comes to this concern ov

joining us now to discuss is matt zeller.is in charge of a nonprofit helping set up the lives of these afghanis. and he was given rare access to film, a new documentary he's working on. you were shooting this video earlier today as these families arrived at fort lee. what was it like? show us what we're seeing and what this was like for you. >> sure. what you should be seeing is the first families that came out of a special area of customs to where the united states army had set up some buses to move them to fort lee. i was joined by a gentleman who had not seen his mom, his dad, or his two sisters in 11 years, and he's part of the film that we were making and we were there to try and capture their hopeful first reunion, at least their first glimpses of one another. we had no idea if we'd even see it. somebody who's been working on this for almost now a decade, it felt like seeing a promise kept. this is the best part of doing this work is seeing these people arrive here. but the reality, jake, is that it only represents 0.3%
