let's go to our meteorologist, zoe mintz.have been talking about the winds and the potential that that can make things much worse over the next couple of days . it is also the fact that they will not get much rain either. >>> the fact that they have not seen an inch of rain or more in a day since may of last year. this is normally our wet season and normally atmospheric rivers season, this time last year they were talking about flooding rains, and now they're talking about wild fire danger and a lot of dry air. and we will continue to see the dry air coming in with the santa ana winds and you can actually see as a low pressure system, a very similar set up to what we saw last week with the 80 to 100 mile an hour wind gusts is beginning to set up and notice the direction, spinning counterclockwise and it is helping to usher in those santa ana winds, squeezing through the gaps of the mountains, and unfortunately, we will see them picking up over the next several hours. and several days as well, with little to no chances for rai

let's get over to first alert meteorologist zoe mintz in our virtual view studio. zoe. >>>>well, it's definitely a rainy one out there, but it is a quick mover and i want everybody to appreciate the rain while it's here because it is not going to last for long. and after today, a very dry weather pattern is going to take hold. so like i showed you, we've seen a lot of rain over the past couple of hours. that steady line of rain continued to push from northeast to south or northwest to southeast across the bay area, and it's currently impacting places across our inland east bay communities and south bay. and it will continue to push farther and farther east throughout our afternoon hours. and then basically over the next hour or two, it should be out of our hair not to see an isolated shower or two across our north bay communities isn't possible today, because it definitely is. it is not going to be nearly as impactful or nearly as widespread. so keep an umbrella handy, but you're likely not going to need it over. i would say just a couple of hours from now, as we are lo

. >> let's go over to zoe mintz, they are saying they are supposed to get a break, at least for some of today? >> the earlier parts of today is going to be the best, hopefully they can get a little more containment for today because the wind is going to pick up later this afternoon, in fact, they have increased the fire danger across southern california. yesterday it was just an area of yellow, now they have increased it to an area of orange as well, more of a moderate to high risk of fire danger, not just today but tomorrow we are also looking at a very similar story as the breezy wind will persist along with very dry conditions. if you take a closer look at the wind, you can clearly see the santa ana wind making their way through the mountains, if you follow the tip of my toe right now, the santa ana wind making its way through the mountains and they are getting funneled through the mountains as they do so, it is squeezing them and allowing them to speed up even more, that is going to be the reason why they are going to continue to see that fire danger. further north, in the bay ar

zoe mintz is here with us. some good news for our area, but when we're talking about southern california, fingers are crossed. tuesday night is the real tough night, right? >> yes. tomorrow night into early wednesday is where all eyes will be focused on southern california. in the bay area a wind advisory was supposed to be in effect through tomorrow morning, but we've already expired it. so it's quiet for us, southern california not so lucky. hopefully, they'll be on the trend of quieter wind, but now, unfortunately, they are still seeing quite gusty winds, especially on top of the mountains around los angeles. they'll only get gustier overnight tonight and into tomorrow when we can expect 50 to 60 plus-mile-an-hour wind gusts, especially on the mountains and only getting windier and windier late tuesday into early wednesday and then another round of very gusty winds late wednesday morning into the afternoon hours. that will be the 75 plus-mile-an-hour wind gusts that potentially could spark and help fuel any

. >>> let's get over to meteorologist zoe mintz for more on how the conditions are looking in the near future there. >> the winds unfortunately are going to continue to blown at least through wednesday when the red flag warnings will stay in effect, something to keep a very close eye on, and i want to compare it to the fires they saw in september. those fires are not nearly as groundbreaking as the ones we're seeing now not nearly as exceptional. the bridge fire, air fire and line fire were bigger than most of the fires we're dealing with now, but look at the location. it's so important. these fires, even though they were bigger, didn't destroy nearly as many structures because they were farther away from people, farther away from the general population. look how close both the eaton fire and the palisades fire are from neighborhoods and that's the biggest issue. it's not only burning places in forced areas, places where people don't live, it's burning where people do live and the plastics and carcinogens are really, really bad not only for us, but for the environment. we'll continue t

and for more, let's head over to first alert meteorologist zoe mintz. zoe, >>>>we were just wondering what the heck is going on. so much shaking today. very, very thankful that it wasn't worse. we only saw a maximum magnitude of 3.6. the usgs officially downgraded it, but either way, the first one was at 702 very early this morning. then there was an aftershock at around 939. that was a level 2.5 magnitude, then another one at 1048. we all felt the first one, the second one and the third one's all across san francisco. the third one, especially in magnitude 3.0, felt it shake a little bit, but it wasn't that rolling earthquake where you feel a build up and then get a little bit lesser. it was more of just that one rapid shake. it kind of felt like something dropped, something heavy, and then it was away from us. again, not too much damage, but definitely concern when it comes to having to prepare for the next one, because who knows what the next one could be bigger. and we want to make sure that we are prepared. we all have our go bags ready, but either

. >>> all right, let's get a check with zoe mintz right now. meteorologist for a little bit about the weather down there and up here. >> i mean luckily for them, the winds haven't been that bad, but that doesn't mean even though you would see a little bit of the blue sky, you shouldn't wear a mask like you said. matter is just so small from the electronics, the plastics, from all the fabrics that are burning inside people's homes. you cannot see them. they're much smaller than the human nose hairs. so it could be unfortunately bad. we'll look for long-term potential impacts of this breathing in all the carcinogens. but right now, we are looking at the santa ana winds. and doesn't mean it is not weaponty right now as you can see the winds that are coming in from east to west. that is not the normal as it will come to the winds and they will remain strong through tomorrow. that's the reason why we will have the increased fire danger. we are looking at that level three out of three. we are at that top risk for wildfire danger over near the places
