let's check in with meteorologist zoe mintz. >>>>well, we're already >>>>had. yeah. zoe. >>>>yeah. sorry i jumped ahead of you there. i'm just so excited to talk about the weather because there's so much fun stuff going on, and a lot of rain is on the way for us. an atmospheric river is quickly approaching. you can see that firehose of moisture in the central pacific, and that fire hose is going to continue to make its way closer and closer to the west coast before officially bringing us rain. the first round that is going to arrive later tonight. it's going to be a pretty weak round though, as you can see that stronger, more widespread activity isn't going to arrive until overnight wednesday and into early thursday. and then there's going to be some stronger winds associated with that, some heavier downpours. we're definitely concerned about flooding, and it's not just for us. look at southern california. they're going to be getting in on the bulk of the activity from the atmospheric river. so definitely keeping a close eye on southern california's threat for burn scar, flash floo

well, meteorologist zoe mintz is back with us here to talk all things weather.ll-star and we're talking lunar new year. especially for the parade a lot of people outside today. what can they expect? >> so many people outcars and mother nature really had good news for us. don't have to grab the umbrella or the crazy wild atmospheric rivers conditions that we saw on thursday. with that river flowing through of moisture. today, quiet and calm and clear. just a mix of sun and clouds to worry about throughout this afternoon. a few possible showers tomorrow. but it is going to be very, very weak and very short-lived before drier weather moves in just in time for president's day if you have any outdoor plans on monday and then a warming trend will actually pick up into early next week where our temperatures getting back into the upper 60s to near 70 degrees. kind of just depending on where you are located. i'm going to have to walk off screen for a second because i realize that i may -- i disappeared there for a second. and thank you for starting your day with us, i'm max darrow, this morning, it is chilly for sure, zoe mintzaturday morning. >> you are definitely dressed appropriately. but in california, how often do you need a turtleneck, but this morning, definitely going to be a day to stay in bed and stay warm and comfortable, but if you have to get out, definitely bundle up. any warm jackets you have laying around, you will need to pull them out, but you are not necessarily going to need it by the afternoon, we are going to be warming up back to seasonable for this time of year. but compared to yesterday, this is definitely the biggest difference compared to 24 hours ago , along with the fact that we don't have enough cloud coverage to keep us warm, temperatures across the bay area, anywhere from five to 15 degrees cooler, we are currently sitting in the 40s and 30s, there is frost advisories and freeze warnings in effect for parts of the bay area because with our temperatures sitting at 35 degrees in, 38 in petaluma, 36 in santa rosa, it is frigid, you might even see just a little bit of frost. but t

zoe mintz our meteorologist is here to start us off and you say rain potentially. >> tracking rain and north bay communities are currently dealing with the rain. for rain today but not nearly as strong as the system we saw thursday. thursdays system with the strong winds and flooding and the really gloomy conditions. today is not going to be like that. i want to take a step back and show you are what we have seen. this is from the first to the 15th of the month, february, over nine inches nearly 10 inches of rain in santa rosa. well over a foot of rainfall in healdsburg and even in san francisco we saw half a foot of rain just in the first 15 days of the month and that puts us at our third wettest start to february on record. right now, we are going to be adding to some of those totals . north bay communities we are currently tracking some rain. this rain is really not going to be anything too impactful and it is only the, far north bay communities looking at areas in darker and deeper yellow and orange and they will pick up a couple of hundred to a couple of tenths of an inch. the fur

let's check in with meteorologist zoe mintz for the very latest on this last round of rain. before we before we actually get a break. >zoe>yeah. luckily a nice break is on the way just in time for the weekend, because this is a definitely powerful system that's making its way across the entirety of california. it is pummeling us here in the bay area, but it's not nearly as strong as tuesday's storm system. that brought upwards of 4 to 6in of rain. let's take a look, though, at what that 4 to 6in of rain did bring, which was flood warnings and an additional 1 to 3in throughout this afternoon definitely is cause for concern, but there is good news when it comes to the russian river at guerneville. we are down to that minor flooding stage versus moderate, and those river levels will continue to subside throughout the rest of the day today. so there is good news. river levels going down even with that additional 1 to 3in of rain, it just might allow those river levels to go down a little bit slower with additional rainfall. but again, you notice our activity is not nearly as heav

and meteorologist zoe mintz has been tracking the storm for us all afternoon. it is fascinating how the flooding could seemingly come out of nowhere and just get one clogged drain and suddenly you're in deep. >> reporter: ask it just gets funneled down the mountains, wherever it gets funneled to in that one point, there will be a lot of flooding. so it will continue, but luckily it will continue to subside as well, especially across the communities that have dealt with the heaviest of the rainfall since friday. a look at the high totals. healdsburg, north bay community. some places picked up upwards of 8 to 12 inches of rain, especially on the highest elevations. healdsburg nearly nine inches. closer to the santa cruz mountains, 6 to 7 inches and that will be the name of the game since friday. and these rainfall totals will continue to get higher for us as they are not done yet as you could see on the window behind us, it is still raining there in san francisco. over three inches of rain has fallen since friday. but how much has fallen in the past 24 hours? it

let's check in with meteorologist zoe mintz on that next round of rain that's coming. hey, >zoe>zoe. hey. and joy today. pick up the pieces while you can, because by as soon as tomorrow, the next round of rain is going to increase our flooding threats on places that are still dealing with that flood warning. like the russian river up near guerneville. it's going to continue through thursday morning, and i would not be surprised if it did get extended, because on top of the already near a foot of rain that fell across parts of the north bay communities, an additional couple of inches are likely into tomorrow as well. the good news is it's not going to bring an additional foot of additional rainfall. it's not going to be nearly as heavy as yesterday's system. that brought 78 mile an hour wind gusts in pacifica. again, it will be a lot calmer tomorrow compared to what we saw yesterday. but the places that already have very saturated soils, again, we are still concerned about flooding. but today, again, hopefully those river levels continue to get downwards and hopefully we

this is ahead of the peak of the storm, meteorologist zoe mintz here to tell us how much rain is coming. >> we're looking at a lot of it late tonight. we're beginning to see that initial edge of the atmospheric river make its way south. that's great news for places like san jose that have only seen a couple hundredths of an inch in the past 72 hours or so. we'll continue to see more rain. let's see what the current radar image is showing us. again, it's northest communities and the farthest in the north bay that are seeing a little bit of that action. the next 12 to 24 hours widespread activity will return. it is a mess of weather across the bay area continuing throughout the day tomorrow. i'll break down the details on the timing coming up in a bit, but now i want to talk about some numbers because again flood watches are in effect starting this evening continuing through 4:00 a.m. monday as the highest rainfall totals will be across our north bay communities, places like santa rosa, 3 to 6 inches of additional rain, napa, 2 to 4 or more inches of additional rain, north bay communities

of course joined by our meteorologist zoe mintz. what can people expect today and tomorrow? >> great news. mother nature, i think she has some -- like positivity for us. >> i love the sunshine. >> feels bad for all the rain that we've gotten in. she's like you know what? they need to soak up some sunshine. today is the day. how much rain we saw with the past storm system with wednesday and thursday's activity over a half of a foot of rain for parts o the santa cruz mountains. some of our north bay communities saw over 4, maybe 4.35 inches kind of depending on where you were located but it was definitely a southern half of the bay area system that really got in on the activity. over 2 inches for us here in san francisco. for an inch and a half for san jose. and again that's really great news for the santa clara valley communities that haven't gotten in on the activity from the past atmospheric rivers. today though, again it is quiet and it is calm and it is cold out there. it is literally freezing in petaluma right now at 32 degrees. significantly cooler than yesterday by any

alongside meteorologist zoe mintz on the soggy morning.n the weather department. >> more rain but not as heavy as yesterday. if you have outdoor plans, it will not be the completely soggy, rainy afternoon that we have to run in between and have to stay dry and keep the umbrella. you will need it but not all day. that is good news if you have outdoor plans today, better than yesterday. one of my favorite things to do is look at that big a pattern and i will pull up the united states map and show you exactly what we have seen over the past 24 hours because you notice the nose of moisture is over northern california and that is where the bulk of the activity is this morning . northern half of the bay area will have the best potential of picking up a few of the isolated showers but other than that today, it will be northern california that will get in on most of that action. it is not until we step out only into tomorrow and later tomorrow evening that the nose of moisture from the atmospheric river will officially ride. earlier this morning,

first alert meteorologist zoe mintz here on the sunday morning.hillier than yesterday but not everywhere. >> most of us are a couple of degrees cooler. in san francisco we are in the mid-40s. the record cold temperature for the day is 38 degrees. the fact that we are sitting in the mid 40s, we are a couple of degrees away from the record low and we will be not pretty and waited this morning about 42 degrees in san francisco. that is four. that is 4 degrees away from the record low temperature. it is chilly and significantly cooler than normal sitting in the mid to lower 30s across the north bay communities . but compared to yesterday at this time, most of us are cooler than yesterday and let's hopefully -- this works. but not everybody is. you notice places like antioch and fairfield, they are actually a degree or two warmer than yesterday and the reason is because they are saying a little bit more cloud coverage. that is really the only place we are dealing with the cloud coverage and that is the reason that they are the only place that those tem
