FACTS ABOUT
BARCLAY
DESCRIPTION OF MATERIAL
Barclay is a modern plastic surfacing material in sheet
form for finishing walls, ceilings and many types of flat
surfaces. The special Barclay Finish consists of a new
plastic which, while still in its liquid state, is permanently
fused by heat treatment onto large sheets of tempered
fibre board. This method is a radical improvement over
all former processes.
Barclay has a hard, smooth, polished surface that is
chemically inert and extremely stable as to color. Barclay
is highly wear-resistant. Extremely durable, its glass-
smooth surface can be marred only by excessive abuse,
yet it can be readily sawed and nailed. An exclusive fac-
tory procedure perfected by Barclay completely seals the
surface pores and thereby prevents the penetration of
moisture and dirt, and acts as a repellent of common
household acid and fruit juice stains. Barclays' surface is
stain and spot-proof, water-proof, dirt-proof, vermin-
proof, termite-proof. Accordingly, it provides a polished,
sanitary surface that will clean with ease and if not abused
will retain its beautiful appearance for many years.
Barclay is fabricated in large wall-size sheets, 5/32"
thick, that can be applied over old or new walls and ceil-
ings with a minimum of effort by any competent car-
penter. Three standard surface design patterns and a
wide selection of color combinations offer limitless pos-
sibilities for decorative schemes. (See colors on page 11.)
BARCLAY SURFACE DESIGNS
TILEBOARD — an ideal material for walls where the
beauty of tile is desired. It provides a wall surface of
gleaming "tile" — a smart, striking decoration at a frac-
tion of the cost of ceramic tile. Tileboard sheets have
scored joint markings forming 4" squares, giving the
effect of 4" tile set in cement. The "mortar" lines are in
contrastingly distinctive colors.
PANELBOARD — large color panels made in the same
wide range of beautiful colors as Barclay Tileboard, but
having no score markings. These lustrous panels create
an effect of colorful spaciousness particularly desirable
in modern interior decoration.
STREAM-LINED — designed especially for harmonizing
with contemporary interior styling. Stream-Lined sheets
are scored with horizontal "mortar" lines, spaced 4" or
8" apart, running the entire length of the panel. An
infinite variety of decorative efforts are obtainable by in-
stalling these sheets horizontally or vertically, and in con-
trasting combination with Tileboard or Panelboard.
STANDARD SIZES
Barclay Tileboard, Panelboard and Stream-Lined are made
in large flat sheets 4' wide by 4', 6', 8' long by 5/32" thick.
STANDARD COLORS
White, Red, Ivory, Peach, Yellow, Green, Blue, Royal-
Blue, Orchid, Black. "Mortar" lines are in contrasting
colors. Additional colors or combinations may be had
on special order. (See colors on page 11.)
MOLDINGS
Barclay Moldings supplement Tileboard, Panelboard and
Stream-Lined in providing for a completely finished in-
stallation. They are designed to provide a permanent,
practical trim, and are constructed along functional lines
to keep application simple and cost low. Barclay Mold-
ings to fill most decorative needs are made of Stainless
Steel, Polished Aluminum Alloy, Chrome Zinc, and
Tempered Presdwood. (See details on page 9.)
CEMENT
Barclay Certified Cement #381 (Waterproof) and Barclay
Wallboard Cement #382 (Non-Waterproof) are high
quality mastics recommended and authorized by the
manufacturer. (See details on pages 9 and 10.)
APPLICATION
The large easily-handled sheets of Barclay may be readily
cut into the desired pieces by any competent carpenter or
anyone familiar with ordinary carpenter tools. Complete
sheets and pieces can be quickly fitted and applied over
plaster, plywood, wallboard, insulation board or other
solid backgrounds that are dry and straight. The use of
a room need not be disturbed since the nature of Barclay
eliminates the bothersome debris of plaster or mortar.
(See Specifications on page 10.)

AMERICA'S
HOMES
ADVANTAGES OF BARCLAY
Barclay is ideal for all places in the
home where a sanitary, durable wall or
ceiling surface is desired. Barclay
brings new charm and new usefulness
to rooms. There is no periodic renovat-
ing, once Barclay is installed — it always
stays new and it never needs more than
a damp cloth to keep it spotlessly bright
and clean. No cracked plaster to spoil
an otherwise neat appearance — no
"loose tiles" to fall out.
EASY TO INSTALL
Barclay is made in large prefinished
"wall-size" sheets that are easily and
economically ait to the desired size by
any competent carpenter or anyone
familiar with ordinary carpenter tools.
It is this workability, combined with the
low cost of the material its el], that
makes finished jobs so inexpensive.
MANY USES r .
With Barclay, dull kitchens and baths
become radiant with color. Old, un-
sightly plaster is quickly obliterated by
the application of Barclay Tileboard,
Panelboard or Stream-Lined — all .erack-
proof, dirt-proof, stain-proof, everlast-
ingly colorful. No longer need dreary,
colorless kitchens be depressing! Bar-
clay changes the dreariest of kitchens
into a cool, colorful, environment that

is lustrously beautiful — a delightful
place to work and live.
The bathroom quickly stamps a home
as modern or out-of-date. Constantly
attacked by shower splashes, soap and
steam, ordinary bathrooms soon lose
their originally fresh appearance. Bar-
clay's plastic-type glass-smooth surface
has been especially developed to meet
these typical conditions. It is water-
proof, cleans easily, and with ordinary
care will retain its beautiful color under
such trying usage.
"NEW ROOMS"
Hitherto unused, many areas in the
home may be transformed by Barclay
into new rooms that add to the joy of
living. An infrequently used "spare
room" becomes a delightful, sanitary
nursery — or a striking powder room —
or a smart trim-looking hobby room.
Barclay converts the attic into a rainy-
day game room — or a snug card room.
Barclay, with its colorful atmosphere,
changes the basement into a fun-inviting
recreation room — for parties and en-
tertaining. Even the gaily paneled
cocktail bar pictures Barclay in use.
Charm, color, modern atmosphere
may be introduced to the rest of the
home with Barclay — the dining alcove,
laundry, hallways, foyers and store-
rooms. For closet walls and ceilings,
Barclay Panelboard is extremely practi-
cal. Easy to clean, sanitary and vermin-
proof, there is no annoying "plaster
white" to smudge on clothes — no fur-
ther replastering or redecorating.
Installed horizontally, Stream-Lined
makes high-ceilinged rooms appear
more spacious — used vertically, low-
ceilings appear higher.
ENHANCED VALUE
Barclay's wide variety of color com-
binations and surface patterns make
even the standard-plan home seem in-
dividually personal. Its "new room"
appearance increases property value to
many times the small investment.

ADVANTAGES
Architects, builders, business and pro-
fessional men all recognize the import-
ance of attractive interiors in winning
and holding patronage. But the prob-
lem of how to permanently transform
shabby, outmoded walls and ceilings in-
expensively, without seriously inter-
rupting business or room use, has now
been solved. Barclay Tileboard, Panel-
board and Stream-Lined — the same pre-
finished sheets described on preceding
pages — are just as adaptable to com-
mercial and professional interiors as to
homes.
The principle of manufacturing
building materials in large units (which
are prefabricated to represent a number
of smaller units) is a familiar principle
which Barclay has adapted to its wall
and ceiling material. It is a money-
saving procedure because large areas
can be completely covered in a remark-
ably short time and at a fraction of the
usual cost.
QUICKLY INSTALLED
In most cases, the fact that these
large, easily handled sheets may be
quickly installed on new walls or right
over old walls with practically no dirt
and disturbance is truly an important
advantage. Barclay is a clean, dry ma-
terial that can be installed without in-

mum of temporary stock adjustment.
MANY USES
Almost every demand for modern
decoration in professional and com-
mercial interiors can be fulfilled with-
Barclay's wide range of color combina-
tions and surface designs. (See colors
on page 11.)
In all types of shops — Food Stores,
Dairy Stores, Bakeries, Meat Markets,
Drug Stores, Barber Shops, Beauty
Salons, etc. — Barclay is as practical as
it is smart and fashionable. As a color-
ful, clean background, it displays mer-
chandise advantageously. Upkeep costs
are reduced to a new low because Bar-
clay will neither deteriorate nor require
periodic redecorating. Due to the na-
ture of its composition, there are no
annoying "loose tiles" to fall out — no
cracked plaster with its untidy appear-
ance. A damp cloth is all that is needed
to keep Barclay's wear-resistant, smooth
surface spotlessly clean, year after year.
Barclay provides smart, up-to-date
interiors for Restaurants, Cafeterias,
Night Clubs, Country Clubs, Hotel
Lobbies, Dining Rooms, Cocktail
Lounges, Foyers and Lobbies. It has
all the elements for making these in-
teriors attractively inviting, pleasant and
scintillating with color.
Its remarkable resistance to wear and
extreme ease of installation recom-
mends it particularly for use in Lubri-
toriums, Locker Rooms, Boats, Trailers,
Counters, Meat Cases, Coolers, Eleva-
tor Cabs, Displays, Exhibits, etc.
Barclay's sanitary, glass-smooth sur-
face is ideally suited for Hospitals,
Laboratories, Operating Rooms, etc.
WIDELY SOLD
Barclay is sold and displayed through-
out the United States and Canada by
building supply dealers and lumber
yards. It is also displayed at the perma-
nent building material exhibit of the
Architects Samples Corp. in New York.

JAY- BOARD
A BARCLAY PROVUCT
~k Jay-Board is a colorful, prac-
tical, yet inexpensive surfacing material in sheet form.
It has a durable, satin finish, and is designed to be in-
stalled wherever the demand on its finish is not as severe
as that on Barclay.
While it is not recommended that Jay-Board be used
in installations where it will be subjected to extreme wet
conditions (as in showers, etc.) and where temperature
variations are great, it is, however, far superior in per-
formance and low-cost to any unfinished wall board that
is painted or lacquered after the sheet is installed.
As in the case of Barclay, Jay-Board's synthetic resin-
type finish is fused by heat treatment to large sheets of
tempered fibre board. Surface pores are completely sealed
to repel all common household acids, and to prevent
penetration of moisture and dirt. Jay-Board is vermin-
proof and termite-proof. It's beautiful satin finish can
be marred only by excessive abuse, as it will not crack
or craze. Easily kept spotlessly clean by a damp cloth,
Jay-Board will retain its attractive appearance for years.
ADVANTAGES
Applied in large, easily-handled sheets over studs or
furring in new construction, or right over old plaster walls
in existing rooms, Jay-Board provides an attractive, ser-
viceable wall or ceiling finish that is amazingly low in
cost! It needs no further painting or refinishing. Any
competent carpenter or anyone familiar with ordinary
carpenter tools can install it quickly and efficiently with
no troublesome dirt or debris. Jay-Board fills a modern
need for a modern, inexpensive decoration in domestic,
professional and commercial interiors.
