medford. going back to medford to give this talk. so that just felt like a lovely synergy. it takes a long time to get here from norwalk, but not long as it did when child was making the the voyage. as a very young as a 12 year old. so i've often what that trip was like for her and so what i want to do tonight is give you a kind of arc of her life. so i want to read a couple of passages from my book that talk when she was here and what she would have experienced here. and then i'm going to talk little bit and then read a passage through from the middle of her life and especially about her conversion to abolitionism. and then if we have time, i'd like to close a couple of passages from much later in her life because. i think part of what risks everywhere in medford, perhaps especially is that we know that she famous one thing not going to mention the name of this poem not yet anyway. and that was for a poem children and kind of put her in a box of children's literature or we don't think of her as gone beyond that what a very early and earnest love of writing for children. so

this stretches from medford, oregon all the way into monterey bay, and you can see the line of very heavy rain and the potential of an embedded thunderstorm still does exist. now that front has pushed out of the peninsula, it has marched in an easterly direction. you see the heaviest rain now moving into the brentwood and discovery bay area , as well as the altamont pass. but this is what has been very odd. while all this heavy rain is pushing into antioch and streaming out towards the pleasanton area, it is void. the heaviest precipitation right there in livermore. but as you look at pleasanton, many of the streets are experiencing a lot of ponding. therefore, there was a flood advisory that has just allowed to expire just a couple of minutes ago. meanwhile, we do have heavy precipitation that continues to move into the santa clara valley. san jose has picked up over a quarter of an inch of rain in just the past two hours, which is significant for the santa clara valley. so meanwhile, the totals have been adding up. look at los gatos three quarters of an inch of rain this is just since 3

tracker, two doppler radar and it's picking up this storm that stretches about 385 miles right now from medford, oregon, all the way into monterey bay. and carmel by the sea. and you can see right there, look at the shades of yellow and orange. that's the moderate to heavy downpours. and also there's so much instability with these cells that we could see the spark of a thunderstorm at any point of the day or night. now right now, the heaviest activity look at this. this is very impressive here. when i went in. and took a look at some of the dynamics associated with these cells, if this cell was just to sit over half moon bay for one full hour, it would produce over two inches of rain. but it's not happening. it is moving. and south san francisco you have some heavy rainfall. we do have moderate rain falling right now around monterey boulevard all the way into twin peaks boulevard, and then as we move in towards the city of san francisco, the mission district, marina district, you see the light to moderate, to heavy rain right now encompassing the bay bridge, the golden gate bridge. and then you
