yep, about 200 volunteers are surveying all around san mateo county this morning. we did just get to a central park and actually they just told us that these groups here who were surveying didn't find anybody, which, of course, they say is some good news. but there's not a whole lot for us to show you right now from the location that we're at. but i will show you what the scene looked like when volunteers got to city hall this morning at 5 a.m. is when they started gathering there at city hall, before they started to head out, but they all left in our kind of all covering different areas each person was given a specific area to cover and count. officials say counts like this helped to secure more funding for shelter, beds and resources to help get unhoused people back on their feet. >> and what's particularly useful about the point in time count is that it uses the same methodology over time. and so that gives us data that we can use to do a longitudinal analysis of the trends of the people experiencing homelessness . um, over a significant period of time. >> now,

i understand that you just got off the phone with san mateo county sheriff's office. what did they have to say? >> reporter: well, laura, the sheriff's office has told us there are parts of the plane that have washed up on shore. a local just moments ago actually shared a photo she took this morning of the plane's tail that is also on the beach. other people have been sharing their photos of what they've seen just on the beach about 15 minutes or 20 minutes of a hike north of where we are. at this point, there are no search-and-rescue efforts out because we're told the conditions of the waters are too difficult, specifically the high tides. but the crews were out for a good amount of time this morning, and this is what they have recoverrecovered. you're seeing san mateo county sheriff's office haul away some of the wreckage that has been recovered of the small plane believed to have crashed last night. at least one solid chunk of the plane has now been moved from what was the command center here in half moon bay to a secure location so that it can be investigated. now

county officials say there are eight homeless encampment in unincorporated areas of san mateo county.people who live in san francisco's fillmore neighborhood are taking action to try to make sure that they have a grocery store in that area. they held a rally today along with supervisor dean preston and other elected officials there, demanding that a new grocery store be included in a development plan for this side of the current safeway. there in the fillmore safeway, as we've been reporting plans to close the store and has sold the property to a developer, it plans to build a mixed use development at the site. a supervisor, preston, says the city could consider an ordinance to ensure that grocery stores across the city would not shut down. >> we will make sure not only that safeway has to meet with this community that the developers have to come to a meeting with the community and work collaboratively with city leaders and community residents. so not only will we force that to happen here on this site, but through this law, we will make sure that what happened or what almost happened
