let's bring in vianey. what's on the radar? >> we are still seeing some light to moderate activity, raj, on our mobile doppler radar. you can see the red scan right here. primarily, though areas south of the golden gate bridge are now going to continue to see that moderate rain. and as we mentioned, it is starting to move out. if i zoom this out farther, you can see we have decent pockets moving into parts of the south bay along 101 stretching through gilroy as well. as this rain continues to taper off to the south, though, behind this, we're going to get some clearing. and here's what we can expect. that scattered rain will move out later into tonight. by tomorrow, we're expecting sunshine. but of course that coastal flood advisory will remain in effect tomorrow because of king tides. we are expecting to see that possibility continue pretty much through thursday into friday. cold overnight temperatures will be our next headline. frost is possible. frost advisories do go effect. and we're looking ahead into our next storm syste

here is vianey. >> we have some impacts sweeping through the north bay.idespread heavy downpours into the early afternoon. zooming in closer, you can see heavier pockets starting to move through san francisco right now. if you live north of the golden gate bridge, you were the first to see the rain. that will spread south as we inch toward 1:00, 2:00. we do see heavier pockets in oakland, hayward, san mateo and fremont. the south bay, we are dry. it isn't until 1:30, 2:00, we see the rain coming in, through college park. becoming widespread by the time we get to the 4:00 hour into the evening. in addition to that, the gusty conditions are going to play a factor into this evening. paired with the saturated soil from the rain we have had in the past couple of weeks, and here are areas that of concern, including the high wind warning around the coastline, all the way until thursday morning. we will monitor that very closely. gusty winds upwards of 40 to 50 plus miles per hour. >> thank you vianey. >>> firefighters responded to this downed tree this morning.

advisory will be going into effect through sunday, plus we are watching more on the rain and meterologist vianey arana joins us now in we're talking tomorrow for the wet stuff. >> we are going to see temperatures dipping down into the 30s, even 20s, towards the end of the weekend and it will get frosty but the sierra window is now because by tomorrow morning, we are talking heavy snow, rain and also gusty winds. you can see the storm system just out of the pacific. the one we see tomorrow will be a weaker one. what's lining up behind this will bring greater impacts but not necessarily for tomorrow. i will guide you through that. into tonight, the big story will be the drop in the temperatures, frost advisories go into effect starting tonight at midnight into early saturday morning. 30s are likely, also rain returns saturday, along with cooler weather but it is going to be a bit of a weaker system, not a complete washout. we will go into more detail about the winter storm warning and where the impacts into next week as well. that's coming up in just a few minutes. >>> a change of plans in oakland

let's bring in meterologist vianey arana, how much rain and how cold? >> the cold is my biggest concern. it is a weaker system, so even though it's only going to impact half of your weekend, it's definitely noticeable heading into saturday. currently, our temperatures are in the 60s and 50s, notice are live cameras look pretty good, wind speeds are calm. we are also monitoring this, because even though the system won't bring a lot of rain, the impacts associated with the cold front will bring in the cold blast. something to keep in mind, we are still seeing a beach hazard statement for the coastline because the dangerous sneaker waves and currents, here it is, the system lining up right there. we've been clear but we will notice the cloud cover initially for saturday morning but then we will see the temperatures dip overnight and we are going to see frosty conditions, 30s, on the map and heading into the second half of your saturday and that's what we are expecting to see the rain but i want to make a mention because we do see this frost advisory go int

let's welcome vianey arana for more insight on the conditions in the sierra, more on the avalanche and some snow has fallen in palisades tahoe in recent days and they are getting more right now. >> it certainly has. and the risk for avalanches can always exist when you are dealing with the steep slopes. but the risk is extremely high following a fresh snowstorm. and i want to zoom in using our radar. you can see some of that snow coming down right now along with the gusty winds. to give you insight how avalanches work, potential causes and risks, one of the biggest is fresh and old layers come bipartisaned with the weight bring a higher risk the reason after a fresh snowstorm the risk is higher and the conditions have to be assessed. and strong winds weaken snow. and we saw lake wind advisories near that area 80-100 miles per hour and the taller ridges above 6,000 feet play a big factor. we are talking about the melting snow below the surface. you get old snow with new snow on top and carry that weight and that is when you can get the impact of that slide going downhill. palisades aver

vianey arana joins us to have that combination, there's so much water you have to be careful right now you do. i mean, the ocean is nothing to play with. and so just follow the guidance of what the national weather service says and the hazards on the beach. the rain now hazards with that will clear out rather quickly. once we inch closer towards the overnight hours because that system clears out behind it here comes the cold blast. and on deck we have an additional storm system expected for the weekend. and the rainfall totals for the weekend are starting to boost higher for the north bay. the beautiful night in downtown san jose. you likely got caught in one of the pockets of moderate heavy rain but that has now started to move a little bit further south. let's look where it is right now. we do have plenty of sierra storm coming down a warning is in effect until tomorrow morning. look at the doppler radar, you can see the red scan we have light rain through san francisco, san mateo and parts of fremont castro valley catching a break. we have light activity about to move into san jose.
