let's welcome vianey arana for more insight on the conditions in the sierra, more on the avalanche and some snow has fallen in palisades tahoe in recent days and they are getting more right now. >> it certainly has. and the risk for avalanches can always exist when you are dealing with the steep slopes. but the risk is extremely high following a fresh snowstorm. and i want to zoom in using our radar. you can see some of that snow coming down right now along with the gusty winds. to give you insight how avalanches work, potential causes and risks, one of the biggest is fresh and old layers come bipartisaned with the weight bring a higher risk the reason after a fresh snowstorm the risk is higher and the conditions have to be assessed. and strong winds weaken snow. and we saw lake wind advisories near that area 80-100 miles per hour and the taller ridges above 6,000 feet play a big factor. we are talking about the melting snow below the surface. you get old snow with new snow on top and carry that weight and that is when you can get the impact of that slide going downhill. palisades aver
