over to my right janice dean with the fox weather. >> janice: here we go.ational weather service put out a winter storm watch for new york city, the first time in two years. and we are expecting quite a bit of snow. there's the temperature profile here across the northern plains and the great lakes and the northeast. and warm enough for severe storms as well as some snow for parts of oklahoma in towards arkansas. and missouri. you have the potential for heavy rain, not only that, but severe storms including tornadoes today as that cold front associated with this low moves over the southeast. i want to point out the snow that's going to move across the midwest, parts of the ohio river valley in towards the mid-atlantic. so here's our area of low pressure. it comes up towards the appalachians, tonight and into tomorrow morning. starting off as a rain event, along the coast, and then heavy snow in the midday through the afternoon hours and then the storm will be out of here. now, steve doocy pointed out well, it's going to be, you know, in the upper thirst her

janice, look at those numbers., absolutely. you know, this is really incredible. historic for this region. close a foot of rain. you mentioned around the santa monica mountains in the los angeles area. and today we are getting more rain in the forecast. maybe not as concentrated but on and off showers as we head into wednesday for parts of southern california and moving a little bit more southward towards the san diego area. so, that region is going to be on high alert for flooding and then the mountains could receive over a foot or more of snow. and that's going to cause some avalanche concerns. so there is the rain still to come through wednesday. again, south of los angeles, in towards the san diego area and in towards palm springs. so flood alerts continue. we have flood warnings for the los angeles area. and then flood watches for parts of southern california in towards central california and even extending into arizona. there is your forecast today. the biggest story will be the ongoing rain for southern cali

janice dean is here with fox weather and election forecast. >> janice: yikes, kids are enjoying a snow day. in long island, it is remote learning. give the kids a snow day, especially if they are getting the most snow they have seen in two years. take a look at the live radar. getting snow in new york 73 and long island. 34 degrees. the storm is cranking up and rain for baltimore and philadelphia and that is expected to turn to snow. there is new york city and bridgeport, connecticut. newburg, expected six to 12 inches in the boston area. pennsylvania toward new york and upstate new york will not get much of anything, it is concentrated to new york city area and connecticut and boston. first snow winter storm warn nothing two years for new york. i will enjoy it. i'm hoping for a snow angel during "fox and friends," we'll see if that happens. we will get snow, but it will be out by this afternoon. will see white-out and blizzard condition, wind gusts 20 to 30 to 40 miles per hour. that is a lot of snow for a short time. we will see one to two inches per hour as the storm cranks up offsh
