i'm kira klapper. police in the east bay continuing a search for a man who they shea shot and killed his estranged girlfriend. this man, jeffrey kendall committed the crime around 8:45 yesterday morning at a home on summit drive in pinole. he lived at the residence with his girlfriend and they say, her son. it shows kendall running away from the scene wearing a camouflage jacket, dark pants and a baseball hat and say kendall frequents numerous locations around that part of contra costa county and has family and friends in the area. he was last seen driving a gray 2013 hyundai elantra with an oxmore hyundai detail on the right side of the trunk lid and believed to be armed and dangerous. if you have any information call pinole police. >>> new overnight, a shooting in san francisco. officers responding to a call just after 9:00 p.m. last night to connecticut street in potrero hills where police saw a man with life-threatening injuries. paramedics took him to the hospital. no update on his condition. offi

i'm kira klapper. cinthia pimentel has a quick look at our microclimate forecast. oh, wow. very busy radar behind you t. is a busy radar and a busy weekend here as we get ready for not one but two atmospheric rivers that will sweep through parts of the bay area. stormranger picking up on light to moderate amounts throughout the morning in santa rosa, petaluma, san rafael approaching parts of the city already. i mentioned not one but two atmosphere rivers. a plume of moisture is hitting the bay area now. storm one for today. the more impactful one comes tomorrow afternoon. we can see it intensifying there in the pacific. we are picking up on dangerous surf as we go through this morning and tomorrow. just avoid the coastline. the rain starts to push through for just about everybody going into lunchtime and continue with heavier pockets of rain through the north bay. talk about the rest of this timeline and potential impacts coming up in about 15 minutes. back to you. >> see you soon. thanks. >>> to this

i'm kira klapper. >>> heading to tahoe pay close attention to the forecast.te 80 along the donner summit last night. chain controls in effect for both i-80 and highway 50. last night there were multiple spinouts on 80 in placer county, all eastbound lanes shut down at one point. this next storm is expected to drop several feet of snow in the sierra. this is highway 50 in the town of meyers as you approach south lake tahoe. >>> back here in the bay area, there's a new plan in san francisco to bring historically black colleges and universities to the city. mayor london breed yesterday talked about that proposal with hbcu leaders, city leaders and tech companies. broadening the ailing downtown. this will happen this summer when hbcu programs will be formally offered in san francisco. there is room for 28 students. the goal to expand that offering. >>> turn back to the forecast with cinthia pimentel. >> as you said, kira. we have to pay attention to the forecast over the next couple of days. now, stormranger right now showing us a few scattered activities. seen t

i'm kira klapper. meteorologist rob mayeda is in for cinthia, and he has the very latest on this microclimate weather alert. >> one-two punch of the storm underway around the bay area. gusts up to 40 miles per hour around san jose and around napa, peak gusts above 50 miles per hour this morning. so the wind sustained 20 to 30 around the bay area, and we're seeing some league rain rates around the santa cruz mountains, moving south to north. this will be the pattern of the day, as the storm is aiming in on california. this is what is unique about this storm. this is the area of low pressure. instead of being part of north, will approach the north bay coastline. so that will keep the heavy rain at times ongoing off and on throughout the day, and the chance of severe thunderstorms from lunchtime into the afternoon as we head towards the evening. most of the heavier rain will move off towards the east. the wind has been strong this morning. peak of the wind speed, late morning to mid afternoon. in the even

i'm kira klapper. the lunar new year celebrations in chinatown. take a look at this video. this is the aftermath of a burned wamo robo taxi. sf police say someone threw a firecracker at it before a crowd joined in. it happened on jackson street. video on social media appears to show the act of vandalism in progress. a group of people surrounded the self-driving car, breaking the windows and cars, as you can see. a group graffitied the car, and wamo confirms someone threw a lit firework inside, starting this fire. fortunately, no passengers were inside. so far, no arrests have been made. >>> of course, today is super sunday. super bowl lviii is in las vegas, but no matter the outcome for the 49ers, san francisco law enforcement is on alert. just like after the nfc championship game, caltrans is closing some freeway off ramps off of 101 and 280 primarily around the mission district. roads will be closed to limit the potential of destructive celebrations. >>> so how will the forecast be for watch parties?

i'm kira klapper. moved in last night and because they've seen it before, city workers were prepared. we went to fulsome street between 17th and 18th which has flooded in previous storms. the city installed walls of barriers intended to hold back surging street water from inundating homes and businesses. people living in the area say the barriers have proven effective and are crucial in protecting their homes over the last four years. >> without it, it was like up half the steps. >> make sure the water is not impeding inside their garages as much as i can. >> this while pg&e says customers across the state will be impacted by the storm. workers are already watching the progression with satellite images and stockpiles of equipment and manpower. >>> we want to look at that pg&e outage map. we are keeping an eye on changes this morning. the spots you see in orange, like cupertino, napa, santa cruz, show up to 2,000 customers without power. we will keep you updated as things change. >>> so what better time

i'm kira klapper. in oakland, the effort to recall the mayor is underway.ignature drive. many critics say she's not tough enough on crime. they want to make sure that she makes public safety a priority and want her to crack down on violent crime and retail theft. a judge was among the volunteers collecting signatures. she says the situation in oakland is escalating. >> every time there's a car break-in, every time there's -- somebody can't walk home from a bank, all of those things came together for me. for me, it was, i cannot just sit back and say nothing. >> tao does have a vocal contingent of supporters. last month, they rallied near city hall demanding she be given a chance to prove herself. >>> turning to the forecast, the storm is bringing some closures here in the bay area. pacifica has closed its pier once again with a threat of high surf and high winds. the pier has been damaged since december. the weather hasn't been calmed down long enough for crews to repair it. it will partially reopen on tuesday. >>> we're going to check in with cinthia pimen
