meteorologist rob mayeda has a look now. >> a gorgeous finish to the week, upper 60s around san jose. san francisco, a few more clouds. to answer the question, will this strong have an impact on the morning commutes? not so much. you see there, just a few areas seeing a chance of some light showers at times. let's take you in on a closer look at tomorrow's rain chances. unlike last week, where we were measuring storms with totals in inches of rain, this is less than a tenth of an inch, and that mostly stays along the coast. showers tomorrow, not a big impact on your morning or afternoon commute. later in the week, highs will be in the 40s and low 50s. all this starts to come together offshore wednesday night into thursday. the heaviest rain we'll see this week will come down thursday and friday. behind that comes the cold air. watch the precipitation type as we begin to see on the higher peaks and the higher hills, especially up in the north bay, a chance of lowering snow levels moving forward into next weekend. tomorrow, the cooldown gets underway. a few showers. main event with the

let's get over to rob mayeda to break down what we can expect tonight. >> what we're seeing, storm number one on our doorstep, bringing the most significant rain of the day and gusty winds, too, across the region. you see from the vantage point of our storm ranger, mobile doppler radar, a good view into san francisco where the rain continues to move through. notice on the radar the back edge of this first storm is already approaching the coast. tonight, a brief break between storms followed up by storm number two which will have stronger winds and likely some higher rain totals as we head into sunday. here's the break we're expecting very briefly tonight. then as we head through the day tomorrow we'll see rain move back in, stronger winds and the potential for strong thunderstorms in the forecast sunday into monday. flood watches up for the entire bay area. this is going to take us from sunday through wednesday. and wind a factor again, could see tree and power issues around the bay area. wind advisories up from sunday into tuesday as those peak gusts during the day tomorrow, you see the

we want to get to rob mayeda with the updated time line. i'm talking about that wind. >> yeah, wind is the big factor. the rain starting to increase around the bay area. a chance of thunderstorms, damaging wind gusts certainly possible throughout the day tomorrow and a flood watch for the entire bay area that will take us into monday morning. right now, you can see it is scanning there. starting to see the rain rates pick up as this comes up out of the south approaching the santa cruz mountains. notice where the area of low pressure, the anchor of the storm is aiming in on. it is heading right towards california with an atmospheric boost resulting in the flood watch until monday morning. already, we will likely see flood warnings tomorrow morning for the guadalupe river at the bridge from 5:00 a.m. to 1:00 in the afternoon. it may crest above flood stage. modern flooding there. and the san lorenzo river could lead to flooding as that peak stage gets to 19.7 feet. that could impact paradise park. many of those locations could see a couple fe

but first we want to check in with meteorologist rob mayeda. how much longer are these incredible wind speeds lasting? >> unfortunately a few more hours. oakland wind speeds, about 45 miles per hour. still 35-mile-per-hour gusts in san jose. now, you may have lived in the bay area a long time, but you probably have not seen wind gusts quite like what we had today. across santa cruz mountains, up to 98 miles per hour at the san jose state meteorology weather station atop immunity umunhum. out near the coast, 89 miles per hour at point reyes. mount diablo, 83. the marin headlands, slightly above 80 miles per hour. those peak wind gusts arrived mid-afternoon today. look at the map behind me. 6:00 through 10:00, we are still in that 40 to 50-mile-per-hour range for those peak wind gusts. but after 11:00 tonight, notice how the wind speeds come down. high wind warning currently expected to expire at 10:00 tonight. but the radar view still active. we've got downpours and those high wind gusts along the coast, approaching santa cruz, more areas of rai

. >>> we have team coverage, mary on five row will have that in a moment, but first, let's get to rob mayeda with the timeline. >> we saw high rates at times, almost an inch there at moran county, and that the north bay, san jose still seeing showers, but now storm 1 is starting to move out. you can see the santa cruz mountains around the south bay. the radar looks relatively quiet off to the west, but that is misleading. you can see storm number two here, clearly defined, grilling up your offshore, that will reintroduce more wind at the potential of some heavy rain at times, as we move forward into tomorrow afternoon. notice the relatively dry start to tomorrow, and by the afternoon the rain spreads back in. and with that we could see a chance of thunderstorms during the day tomorrow. so flood watch will be up across the bay area, starting tomorrow morning until 10:00 on wednesday and on top of that another round of these gusty winds. we will see wind speeds 40-50 miles per hour around the coast and the hills of the north bay with the increasing chance, even tomorrow night into monda

our reporters are stand by, but first we want to check in with rob mayeda. everyone wants to know how thins are look for the morning commute. >> first, let's recap how strong the peak wind gusts were around the 3:00 to 4:00 time. north bay up toward the head lands, wind gusts up to 98 miles per hour at 3:30 in the afternoon. above 80 miles per hour. those are wind gusts, short, intense bursts of wind. not like sustained winds you would have with a tropical storm or hurricane. but they can bring trees down and cause a tremendous number of power issues. look at sfo. that is the lowest i've seen since this morning. i was here this morning. we had wind gusts 40-50 to start the day. the wind speeds are finally starting to come down. dublin, 24 miles per hour. and san jose not reporting a peak wend gust. that's a pleasant change. wind speeds starting to drop around the santa clara valley. the high wind warn and wind advisory extended until 8:00 a.m. here's why. forecasts keep those stronger gusts up into the hills beyond midnight. watch how the purple and red area

. >>> so what better time to check in with meteorologist rob mayeda with our weather alert. >> i thinkatching that power outage map, because the main impact of today's storm will be the strong wind gusts, enough to cause problems for power and tree impacts. peak gusts from mid morning to the evening. plus, a flood watch up for the entire bay area through 10:00 a.m. tomorrow. there is the risk of seeing strong to severe thunderstorms as we head towards the afternoon. the order of the orange is the wind. wind gusts up to 33 miles per hour. gusts briefly close to around 50 in napa this morning. a lot of wind and we're dealing with the rain, too. some intense rain around the santa cruz mountains towards morgan hill. you see the rain coming from south to north. what is unusual about this storm? a deepening area of low pressure approaching the bay area, it's spinning right there offshore. that is enhancing the wind that we're seeing this morning, and will give us some periods of heavy rain at teams. you can see the progression through about midday through noon. some of the downpours, and fro

meteorologist rob mayeda here to tell us about rain, wind, even snow in the forecast. >> on the higher peaks around the bay area it's a possibility later this week. again, as we recap what has been a very mild to warm weekend, 70 in san jose today and i hope you enjoyed it. probably not going to see anything close to those temperatures for the next five to seven days. now, we have partly cloudy skies currently to the south. we're watching this next batch of clouds moving up the coast that will lead to the first chance of rain during the day tomorrow. but notice here in the futurecast there's not a lot out there. more like scattered showers at times from mid-morning into the early afternoon and then tomorrow night skies start to clear on out. which will set the stage for a colder weather system that will drop in starting friday to saturday. that is what's really going to help drive snow levels down. now, as that transition takes place, it will be thursday into friday. much steadier rain and probably some high rain rates at times thursday into friday along with some increasing wind, gust
