let me take you back to friday, a couple weeks ago, apple introduced apple intelligence, the new ai system also introduced a couple of hot new features for the iphone and ipad. one is mirroring. the other is screen sharing from one ipad to another and control the other ipad. those three features according to apple will not be coming to customers in the 27 countries that make up the e.u. later this year because of the digital markets act and the interoperability requirements, which means apple may have to lower the privacy of those features to make them interoperable for third party developers and meet e.u. guidelines. this morning, the european union announced charges against apple related to its compliance, or according to them black of compliance, with the digital markets act related to steering users to payment outside the system. they want them to lower the commission significantly, which it did. at the same time, apple is still trying to collect revenue from apps that are sideloading but not bought from the app store, so the european union does not love that. ed: alibaba njd are big-n

apple was having a pretty horrific 2024.t's broken back -- >> after he did hit an all-time high in december so it entered a correction technically 10% off of that high tech in march. coming up we have seen that stock per cover -- recover tremendously. it's up 18% in that span and some of the conversations with the portfolio managers into the second quarter because of the big run we saw in the first quarter and then we compare that against apple relative to the s&p 500 it was one of the worst quarters coming out of the.com bust whether or not they would be positioned where people were flipping some of the mag seven stocks. starting to see a little bit of that. if you look at the top six stocks you take out tesla because of the volatility you see a record concentration in the s&p 500. you're starting to see more optimism in apple stock recovering. a lot of that has to do with the record buyback historic program they announced about a month ago but also some of the easing tensions you would think some of the problems in china.

on monday apple shares actually closed down around 2%. but on tuesday, shares ended the day up 5% to around $203 per share. that is a new record high for apple, better than december. those new ai tools are only available on newer models of apple products like iphone 15 pro the older series won't do it neither will the base model and i've max will need to have apple preparatory and one chip or newer. and that if suitors are betting that consumers will upgrade their devices to take advantage of the new tools which would lead into mower sales for apple. staying with al investments. shares in oracle havejumped by as much as 11 percent after it announced cloud deals with google and openai. it comes despite the software giant's fourth—quarter results fell short of expectations. oracle is trying to catch up with cloud giants like microsoft who are seeing rapid growth as a result of tie ups with openai. elon musk with jawed lawsuit against open ai, the case accused the ceo of abandoning the original mission of the start—up of developing artificia

>> right now, nvidia is larger than apple.t's what needs to remain the case by the close of business friday, june 14. as long as nvidia has a higher market cap in april -- than apple. we will see a flip. what's happened with his etfs it holds the tech stocks in the s&p 500 and it weighs them by market cap at if there is too big weighting to the top holdings, they are forced to cap the weight of a particular stock. for the last few quarters, despite the fact that if it was just normal market cap weighted index, nvidia would have had a 17% weight recently. if you just look at the market cap basis, it should be 20%. they should all be over 20% weighting but investment company rules don't allow you to do that. there is diversification requirements of the smallest stock gets capped. in the past, nvidia has been capped 4.5% but because apple is technically smaller than nvidia, they will be the one that gets capped so you will see an $11 billion potential sale of apple and then you will see 9-10,000,000,000 dollars of nvidia stock an

we did expect apple to limit some of their new apple intelligence feature to higher-end devices. we did think that they would come out with native first-party app integration and we did think they were going to partner with openai at least initially, and i would check all three of those boxes right now. why i say "slightly ahead," is because apple gave the tools for developers today, effectively, to to their applications, in order to build those out and have more command and control of third-party applications. that was probably earlier than we would have expected apple to give developer those tools. i also think that they left open the possibility of partnering with other large-foundation models to deliver a better experience for the apple user. again, we had high expectations coming in. we think that they slightly exceeded those. >> you think it will lead to that big upgrade cycle. at the end of the day, all roads will lead to that. >> correct. this is what's most important from the developer conferences. we estimate that roughly 5% of the iphone install base today has a device

apple intelligence is apple's push into artificial intelligence.is to add ai everywhere , infuse it with all of the core applications, messages, mail, notes, calendar, voice memos, music, pushing ai everywhere in a very privacy conscious way. in terms of apple's own in-house tools, there will not be a ton of generative ai. for the generative ai that is where they will be focused on a partnership with openai, having a generative ai chatbot of chatgpt within the iphone device search engine and components of siri. you will get in-house large language models within apple to power applications. you will have an icloud based infrastructure using map -- using mac chips and then you will have openai to power the generative ai part of the initiative. this is a three-pronged approach. apple believes it has a strong story to tell. personally i think they're playing a lot of catch-up with their ai initiative. they have a user base of over 2 billion devices so overnight they are going to naturally become the open market leader of artificial intelligence. ed: bl
