courtney fisher, abc seven news. >> police say five people are dead, including the gunman and a massgators say a 21 year old man opened fire at a birthday party. four of the victims died at the scene, while three other shooting victims are expected to survive. the suspect then left the home that led to a pursuit that ended when the suspect shot himself, then crashed into a ditch. police say the suspect knew the people at the party, but the motive for the attack remains unknown. a group of runners with a difficult past are moving forward, making the trek of a cross country trip together. the skid row running club from los angeles are heading to new york. instead of running shoes, though, they're biking the 3500 mile journey. the group was founded to give people struggling with homelessness and substance abuse a chance at a better life. their adventure began this morning, and it's expected to take them about six weeks. here's proof you are never too young to make a difference. a nine year old arizona boy had enough of street racers making an intersection dangerous. abc news anchor whit

courtney fisher, abc seven news. >> all right. new this morning, california's high temperatures are affecting marine life in monterey county. the department of fish and wildlife says a large number of fish were found dead in lake san antonio. this weekend's heat wave is to blame. monterey county posted this picture saying the high temps caused oxygen depletion in the water yesterday. the area hit a high of 114 degrees and today is expected to be another hot one. record highs are being seen across the state this weekend. coachella valley recently broke its record at 124 degrees. residents in the area have been relying on cooling centers to stay safe. >> it can be detrimental to someone's health if they don't have that shelter, that water and some place to cool off the heat. illnesses are very serious and i've dealt with them before in my life. >> data from the county shows there have been 237 heat related emergency visits this year. organizers hope the centers will prevent those in the future. now to your voice. your vote, governor
