tv   CNN Newsroom With Pamela Brown  CNN  September 23, 2024 8:00am-9:00am PDT

8:00 am
joy see, that is so cool. the joy and our phases after all the sorrow and heartbreak, they'd gone through is just beautiful, and the rock said, you know, this is their healing journey and he's supposed to go to their first football game as well. that's amazing. yeah. i mean pam, i just look at the looks on these kids faces is just remarkable. and i know
8:01 am
you're a parent. i'm a parent. our hearts go out to that community there in all those kids and what they've been through. so for the rock to do something like this to me, i mean, just what an injection of kindness and empathy on his part, got to love them unification, we know just humanity. yeah, absolutely. >> all right. thanks, jim, i'll take it sounds good. >> thanks. >> i'm pamela brown in washington and you are in the cnn newsroom morning, republican mark robinson, fiery and defiance here to talk about 15 or 20 year-olds, a licensed false lot we are here to talk about how the state to boot the candidate for north carolina governor is back on the campaign trail today after several of his top campaign officials have stepped down in the wake of cnn's investigation into his past incendiary comments and any minute now, the suspect in the second assassination attempt on donald trump, ryan ruth will be
8:02 am
back in court. >> as we're learning these new details about a letter detailing his alleged assassination plans and brand exclusive reporting from me and my colleagues, your shanta dube now and jeremy herb, former first lady melania trump was paid for a rare appearance at a political event. that's not clear who cut the unusual six figure check newsroom starts. >> now >> begin this hour with breaking news on israel's deadly new airstrikes in lebanon officials say at least 274 people have been killed and more than 1,000 wounded. israel's military says it is conducting an extensive strikes against the iran-backed militant group hezbollah today's offensive is intensifying these
8:03 am
long-standing fears of a wider regional war for and just minutes ago, israel's military warned that it will launch a new wave of airstrikes and eastern lebanon i'm asking that we are preparing to strike terrorist targets in the beqaa valley region soon. so this warning is focused on the villagers in the beqaa valley. >> i urge the lebanese residents let's of the villages in the beqaa valley who are inside or near houses where rockets and weapons are stored to move away immediately cnn's ben wedeman joins us now from beirut, then these last 48 hours have been the most intense exchanges of fire between israel and hezbollah. >> almost a year. what does that tell you about where we're headed? >> well, to put it in perspective, pamela, they're the most intensive israeli airstrikes since the 2006 war, according to the israeli military, so far today, they've launched at least 800 strikes
8:04 am
on targets in various parts of lebanon. now you had that israeli spokesman i just a moment ago saying they're about to launch strikes on the beqaa valley and eastern lebanon. they've already begun that. and we're hearing various places that are being hit now regarding the death toll, this was at a press conference with lebanese health minister fit us. i'll be out who said the death toll is 270 for he said that includes 21 children, 39 children. now, that number 274 is well over the number of people were killed in that massive explosion on 4 august 2020 in beirut, port more than 1,000 people have been wounded so far today and if you look at the events going back to last tuesday when those pager blasts happened around lebanon, more than 350 people have been killed. almost 5,000 people wounded. now, as a result of these ongoing strikes and israeli warnings sent on cell
8:05 am
phones and also breaking into the broadcast of one of lebanon lebanon radio stations hundreds of thousands of people who live in the south appeared to be trying to move out of that area. what we're seeing is the highway from south lebanon to the north is jam packed on both sides of the highway as people try hi to reach safer ground, no schools have been opened in beirut to host those who are leaving. it's important to mention, of course, that the lebanese ministry of education has canceled all classes of all educational institutions. so those schools are probably going to be used to house all of these people who are fleeing from the south the atmosphere obviously is one of intense concern as this operation continues and intensifies. the lebanese prime minister has called upon the un and what he
8:06 am
called influential countries to intervene, to try to get israel to change its course of action. but it appears those that appeal is falling on deaf ears. he says he's worried that towns and villages in south lebanon are going to be destroyed and certainly the video we're seeing out of there would indicate the level of bombing is something. for instance, i was here in 2006. i haven't seen anything like that like what we're seeing today since that war. and really at this point, the feeling is that really another war has begun going back to those pager blasts. but today really is a clear indication that the two countries, lebanon and israel on it, are on a course to a full scale war yet again, pamela, ben wedeman, thank you so much on the ground for us there. and lebanon bringing us the very latest in this increased fighting that ben just laid out in the middle east will be a key focus of
8:07 am
this week's general assembly at the united nations, president biden will address this gathering tomorrow as he fears build of the conflict, becoming a wider regional conflict cnn's alex marquardt joins us now, alex give us a perspective of what this means for the u.s of course, this may be the president's last major appearance on the world stage as he meets with world leaders this week, how much does this escalation between israel and hezbollah complicate biden's efforts to prevent a wider war well, pamela, this is arguably the biggest world stage and this possibility of escalation that ben was just talking about, it's certainly going to dominate the conversation here in new york at the un general assembly this week, there will of course be discussions about the war in ukraine as well. >> but this is going to be a very tough week for president biden. he is set to speak tomorrow at the un when and while he will trump it, his accomplishments throughout his term. of course, this will be overshadowed by what is going on in the middle east, the
8:08 am
failure frankly, of the united states to get to the war in gaza to end, to get to a ceasefire between israel and hamas, the u.s. has been leading give mediation there alongside other countries that are now of course this escalation by israel against hezbollah inside of lebanon us setting the scene for potentially a wider war. the u.s. and top biden ministration officials have been working for the past 11 months to avoid this exact scenario so alongside the inability he to end the war in gaza, you now have this escalation against hezbollah. now, we could expect president biden at the un to talk about, for example, how his administration re-engaged with the world following president trump's term. to talk about how this is the first time in a long time that there are no us plus troops involved in an active war to talk about how us support in ukraine has helped keep russia at bay. but no doubt pam, we have these two simultaneous
8:09 am
wars in gaza and in ukraine. now the possibility of that war expanding in the middle east that are going to really weigh heavily on this un general assembly and the fears about what may happen in the middle east overshadow perhaps the speech that we are going to hear from president biden. >> and we also know by this time, of course, president biden had hoped that this deal would be secured that would free the israeli hostages held by hamas. that is not happened and it raises the question of this new escalation pushing a gauze pushes this gaza ceasefire deal out of reach at this point. >> well, the way that us officials talk about this ceasefire deals, it's not just about getting those israeli hostages home the aid, getting into gaza, for example, it unlocks all kinds of things in the hope was that if they could get to quiet in gaza, then hezbollah in the north would also stop firing their rockets. it would allow israelis in the northern part of israel to return home and the war would
8:10 am
essentially end on those two fronts. that is not happening the exact opposite is happening even before this latest escalation in the past few days, the ceasefire talks were essentially on ice and what we've heard from top us officials is that this is a question of political willingness. they're not seeing the willingness from prime minister netanyahu and his government or from hamas to reach a deal. and so this will push it back if it'll push it back even farther, you could argue that hamas, for example, would feel emboldened because now there's israel fighting alongside one of their allies in hezbollah. what the bottom line here pam is the u.s. right now does not feel like those, those talks are moving forward. they do not feel like there is the willingness by the sides to agree to ceasefire deal. we're entering a very dangerous territory here. pamela. >> we certainly are alex marquardt. thank you so much today. >> a defiant mark robinson is on the campaign trail following an exodus of staffers, the controversial republican nominee for governor of north

carolina is holding campaign events just one day after key killed campaign officials resigned following a bombshell, cnn report and that report unearthed racist and inflammatory comments robinson made on a porn forum. now he has denied those comments and took aim at cnn over the reporting during this morning's event confidence that we can go long. we're getting resumes from all over. we're getting offers from all over people jumping in to help us. we've made a ton of friends in his things as we've been in lot of talented people right now reaching out to us and we're riding the process right now, a formula team that we know can still lead us to victory. so we have full confidence in our ability keep going, but the timing of that them walking away from him right now, the top determined that matter. >> it's not it's not the timing is how you react. >> and we are ready to react and we're doing it right now. >> we're getting today robinson, you've talked about the reporting being salacious lies not true. >> have you taken steps than two not absolutely. all we absolutely we are willing talks
8:12 am
right now everything up to legal counsel to take two cnn to task for what they have done to us. we are going after, okay. we are going to go after him for what they've done but we have five weeks left in his rice folks make no mistake about it. we are not going to let cnn.us off of our mission. our mission is to win had quite i am dismayed about the fact as i said before think about how many people out there right now, right in the place where we are right now, who are hooked on fentanyl who are hooked on opioids. and how many were dotted night because think about what's going on on our border think about what's going on on the world stage. and this is what, you, this is what you so choose to focus on. you've got these news cameras, news reports, pens, pencils, your microphones. this is what you're focused on. you're not focused on the things that we've talked about standing up there about our economy you're not focused on those things i
8:13 am
am i'm going to remain focused on those things and you better you better understand. >> i am coming up to full cnn full throttle the people first in order to put the people first, we've got to concentrate on this campaign going to do. >> that's exactly what we're going to do. >> back record. don't no more questions. no more questions i want to bring in cnn's andrew kaczynski, who broke this story that has led to this very the fiery in defiant reaction from mark robinson there in north carolina. >> andrew, what do you think about this? >> well, that's right. the fall is continuing in that north carolina's governor race with mark robinson, senior staff, resigning in mass following cnn's investigation that uncovered a history of racist inflammatory and sexually let's say to comments that he made on a porn forum more than a decade ago, including calling himself a
8:14 am
quote, black nazi and saying he's important reinstated slavery. now those comments have now been removed since cnn published our story on thursday, cnn reached out to both of robinson's campaign and the site's administrator to confirm what happened to those comments neither has responded, but we've also learned that the staff that have resigned, were robinson's campaign manager, his deputy campaign manager, his top consultant and finance director, along with a handful of other staff. and this leaves him essentially without any staff heading into the final months of the campaign. and the question is now, where does mark robinson go from here the deadline to drop out has passed. there are down-ballot implications in north carolina, but there's also possible up ballot ramifications here because so far donald trump has yet to comment on mark robinson, he previously endorsed him i presidential race is just so so close that any bit of margin could have an impact. there yeah, it's
8:15 am
interesting that donald trump didn't mention him in his recent rally, didn't have him on stage, but he's also not disavowing them either. >> you asked robinson about the possibility of staffers quitting last week. what did he say? >> well, yeah, that's right. and our story, which we published on thursday, we interviewed robinson ahead of it. what was interesting is before our story published, new started to leak that we even were reporting a story now that didn't come from rn at cnn, we didn't tell anybody so that was coming from robin sins orbit and we started to hear rumors. i definitely did from sources as well, that campaign staff on his campaign had resigned. i put that question to robinson in our interview. take a listen to what he told me there have been rumors that some of your campaign staff have have quit. can you tell us if that's true or not absolutely not. >> and we are not getting out of this race. there are people who are counting on us to win this race because again, we
8:16 am
don't want a governor who's going to be a person that can't be counted on to tell the truth. and i can assure you my poll it has been taken to court for not telling the truth in campaigns, and he's been completely dishonest in his ads against me. his camp is so desperate, two destroyers. it's just like clarence thomas said years ago, this is a high-tech lynching and back long years ago, but used to use ropes, nauta using and we'll continue to follow the latest developments in this story. >> pam, andrew kaczynski. thank you so much. >> and we are following some breaking news right now. >> the man suspected in an assassination attempt i, donald trump's florida golf course in court. this hour and prosecutors just revealed new evidence claiming ryan ruth left behind a letter admitting to his assassination plan cnn crime and justice, senior reporter katelyn polantz joins us now, and kaitlan, i was reading through the court documents before the show and
8:17 am
it's really stunning to see what prosecutors are alleging here that ruth had sent this box months before to a witness who came forward really detailing his alleged assassination plot. >> yeah. so this is what's coming out because the prosecutors want to keep ryan birth in jail and they're going before the judge today and they're saying we're going to lay out the facts that we have that we think are enough to keep him in jail and they specifically say that's not everything we know here. >> but this major point that has been revealed in the documents in court today, and what they're likely talking about in court in person is that ryan ruth gave to a what's called a civilian women in yunus at his home, a box of stuff. >> that stuff included ammunition, metal pipes, building materials for phones officers also found six phones in his car, including one that had searches about how to get to mexico from palm beach. but after this happened at mar-a-lago and ryan routh was picked the civilian witness,
8:18 am
called the police, gave over this information opened the box and the letter had a handwritten letter addressed to the world saying this was an assassination attempt on donald trump, but i failed you. and that he would wanted to award ryan ruth wanted to award $150,000 too. whomever can complete the job. obviously, he is behind bars now and quite possibly staying behind bars. he's still facing just a criminal complaint. so we are waiting to see what the ultimate charges may be here. what a grand jury would prove in an indictment that hasn't come down yet, and it sounds like investigators have a lot more information than they're evil in letting on just now. >> yeah, based on what they say in the court documents, katelyn polantz. thank you so much for the latest there and still ahead for you this hour. my new exclusive reporting about the former first lady, melania trump, was paid for a rare appearance on the political event this year, a staggering six figures for one speech, but it's unclear cut, the unusual

check, stay with us who he was should abortion be punished. it has to be some form of punishment. >> then he showed us for 54 years, they were trying to get roe v. wade terminated, and i did it and i'm proud to have done it. >> now, donald trump wants to go further with plans to restrict birth control, ban abortion nationwide, even monitor women's pregnancies we know who donald trump is. he'll take control we'll pay the price. >> i'm kamala harris and i approve this this message. >> what's the greatest invention of all time, new hands-free sketcher slip-ins, you just slipping and they're on it's like they have an invisible built-in shoehorn. so your foot slides into place so that bending down or touching you your shoes, then he'll pillow technology keeps your foot coffee and secure hands-free sketch your slippers look, i got the new iphone 16 pro brazen apple intelligence is print drc's. >> you can get it when you trade in any phone. >> what

8:24 am
about america's modern first ladies how outside the norm is it for the presidential candidate spouse and former first lady to receive a substantial speaking fee like this during a campaign well, i think the reporting you reporting is really interesting because of the timing. it's not unusual for a former first lady to earn six figures speaking. >> but it is unusual during a campaign season. >> and then for us not to understand where the money is coming from is also very unusual. so it's the timing of this that's interesting, but ever since gerald ford was became a former president, we've been having former presidents and first ladies cashing in on their level of fame yes and she has many different business ventures at the moment, including this book that she has written, this memoir and we're seeing these videos that she's just putting out piecemeal leading up to the release of her book. >> i think we have a clip to play of that
8:25 am
on my door sent a jolt through my body the secret service agent told me, i need to move safety was paramount, not just for me, but for the precedent and all of the other residents in the white house the violent protests across the country had finally reached pennsylvania avenue of this you know, i think it's really interesting to see her sort of de-facto campaigning at this point, we're seeing her. >> she hasn't been on the campaign really much at all. i mean, she was only at the rnc one night and she didn't even speak for melania. a lot of it is about making money, right? and this book is already doing very well. it's not out for several weeks. >> and then releasing these little tidbits very dramatically on x i think is
8:26 am
interesting and i think her questioning the secret service, her husband, the assassination attempts of her husband. >> it's kind peddling a little bit in the conspiracy theories that he endorses. and i think that it's, it's it's interesting to see this side of her. she's so mysterious. nobody knows what she's really thing that is absolutely true and you call it the facto campaigning. but what stands out to me is that it's for her benefit, right? as you said you know, this book she stands to benefit from and in terms of the proceeds and including the other business ventures and appearance fee, and we just learned that fox news will air an interview with melania trump on thursday about her book. this will be her first television interview. this campaign cycle. if you were interviewing her, what would you want to ask? what do you want to know oh my gosh, i have so many questions for melania. i mean i think that there has
8:27 am
been this feeling that she's not 100% behind her husband. and his policies and i want to know where does she stand on? things like transgender and military bands and the supreme court nomination? does that mean you see her doing things with log cabin republicans lesbian and gay groups. and where does she personally think about that community? is she socially liberal? where does she stand on abortion and issues like that? and first lady is woman, i tell you this, but i think there's a lot of interests if there's any daylight between her and her husband and we just don't know. >> and it's interesting then sources i talked to they all say that melania has huge sway and influence over donald trump as one source said, she's a timeless asset for him. i think understanding her thinking on those points of view of those issues are really important. thank you so much thanks and still ahead this hour, early voting is underway for some

8:33 am
presidential campaign hi erin. so say what you want about the polls. >> but the polls consistently show trump has an advantage when it comes to the economy, particularly in those key battleground states. >> what's new about kamala harris's economic message that you think could move voters on this issue? >> well, thanks for having me and congratulations on your new anchors by hear this hour. big day for appalachia, east tennessee, and kentucky. and i'm seeing cnn together i think when it comes to the economy, you're seeing actually in these polls that vice president harris is narrowing that gap. and i think that in these polls over the next few weeks to come, i think that that's going to narrow even further and i think part of what you're going to see this week in her speech on wednesday about the economy is a real contrast, envisions between the two candidates and what they would do on the economy if they win in november, vice president harris is talking about cutting middle-class taxes. president trump is talking about raising middle-class taxes by about
8:34 am
$4,000 a year with his plan, she's talking about creating more small businesses and financial incentives for small businesses donald trump talking about another big tax cut for big corporations and billionaires. and so i think over the coming weeks as we close out this campaign, the choice on the economy it's going to be crystal clear and you're going to see that this week when she speaks in pennsylvania about her own vision for the economy and what she believes in as a capitalist, and how this economy can work best for the middle-class you say, you think she's going to close that gap, but the bottom line here, when you look at a metric like grocery prices, there up still 20% compared to four years ago. >> and harris was asked recently on the debate stage whether she thinks americans are better off now than four years ago, and she didn't directly answer that question. so i'll ask you, does she think americans are better off now? or not well, i think that she talked pretty openly about the mess that we inherited when president trump left office and the economy and crash that
8:35 am
happened because of his total mismanagement of covid and the way that covid itself created global inflation numbers that were out of control. >> and so she thinks that the american people have made we progress, but that we have to go even further. that's why she has a plan specifically to take on corporate price gouging when they jack up prices and emergencies like that, especially on things like food and at the grocery store and at the same time you have nobel prize economists who have come out and said that donald trump's economic plan would actually blow up inflation and make it worse follow-up on the question again, i prices for people the choice in the election is also very clear and she's going to keep talking about her plans to bring down those grocery costs while donald trump is going to explode them but let me just follow up on that because you said her plan to bring down grocery costs, as you know, republicans would argue while they've gotten up on under the biden-harris administration, asked the question again are americans does she think americans are better off now?
8:36 am
>> then four years ago well, i think when people are running for president, they want to see what are you going to do for me and it's not a retrospective question, it's actually a forward-looking question. >> and that's what she's doing on the campaign trail every day is saying, i understand that we have to go further for people there are still too many people out there who are hurting. yes, inflation shan has eased a little bit and prices are starting to come down. but man, we've got to go even further. and when you look at the choice on the ballot in november, it's either me or it's donald trump. and my plan is actually to take on these things and to work for you and to try to help you bring those costs down. whereas donald trump is pushing the same old trickle down agenda that's going to help those people at the very top. and billionaires while jack up prices on everybody else, including a nearly $4,000 a year increase on taxes for the middle class. and so that's not going to help bring people's costs down. so when, when you look at the future, not the past, but the future and what these two candidates as president will do if they get elected. she's focused on making sure that et people's

lives continue to get better and don't go backwards like they would with donald trump. >> let me just follow up with you because it because i hear what you're saying, wanting to focus on the future not the past. and when you look at this latest poll and again, i know people have their views of the polls, but this is a credible new york times sienna college poll. they actually ask voters about policies from both trump and harris that they think could impact them in the future. and 45% of the voters say trump's policies would actually help people like them versus just 37% for harris. that's looking at the future, not just the posterior. what do you say to that? >> well, again, there has been some quinnipiac polls, just over the last few days that suggests a different picture of the country of people thinking that her economic are immigration or reproductive freedom plans would help them more. the polls are going to kind of shift around a little bit. i think what we are seeing consistently in this election is that when voters start for to hear the choice between the two candidates, whether that's on the debate stage and vice president harris is very

excited to accept cnn's invitation to debate on october 23, donald trump continues to come up with excuses why he won't participate. most recently. it's too late, even though it's the day after the one he participated in in 2020 in fact in 2020 on october 23, the exact date of cnn's proposed debate, this year, he was asked in the oval office, would you do another debate? and he said, yeah, but suddenly it's too late for him. we need those debates so that people can see the choice on the economy, on immigration, on foreign policy, on all the issues that are so important to the american people. we need that debate so that they can hear one last time from these two candidates. one general election debate between vice president harris and donald trump isn't enough and donald trump's team is indicating just this just this weekend in the washington post, he is still thinking about it. kellyanne conway is allegedly been pushing him to do it is he going to listen? is it going to be in the mood to do it or is he going to? walk and walk away? we think that he should come to the debate stage. >> yeah, it is worth noting that he had agreed to do in a

debate around the same time, just a few days earlier in 2020. 20202016. now he's saying, oh, you know, early voting already happening is too late. we shall see how this all plays out. we've seen a lot of debate over the debate. this election cycle. ian sams thank you so much thank you. still ahead, the fbi is investigating suspicious packages like this one that were sent to election offices in more than 20 these state's up next i'll speak with kentucky's chief election official about his concerns about safety and misinformation pam brian, gary, and today we're talking about the biggest misconception there is about replacement windows. i'm here with ted cones, theust nott old homebuilders put in high-end kitchens bathrooms, and lo and windows, just aren't that good. so even if your windows are only seven to 10-years-old, they may still need to be replaced. >> said there's so many window

found that election officials across the country are largely struggling to implement but measures to adequately keep their workers safe. michael adams, a republican and a top election official. my home state of kentucky has vowed to ensure a free and fair vote in the state to come november. we bring in secretary adams now to discuss all of the secretary. thanks for coming on. so your office received a suspicious letter last week tell us about that. and have you since made any changes to your practices there to keep everyone safe well it was sent to our state board of elections on the morning of our regular monthly meeting. >> that was a coincidence. it contained a powdery substance we immediately had the help of the fbi who confirmed for us that it was not toxic and we went on with our business and that's our plan. pelosi is to go on with the people's business some election offices across the country though, are

very concerned about threats they they're receiving death threats. >> and cnn has reporting out and maricopa county in arizona how they're now creating sort of a fortress around the election workers. and we're voting is because of concerns. tell us about you're concerns and what kind of threats you're seeing against election workers well, the good news is we're not seeing threats to our poll workers. >> there's no reason for folks not to volunteer to help us work. the polls the bad news is it's unfortunately we still get threats to me, to my staff. these were not new in 2020 and they've not gone away. it's very frustrating. we've got, fortunately, a law enforcement presence on every one of our local boards of elections by statute, the sheriff is on that local board and so there's a law enforcement presence. is necessary unfortunately, we have fewer places to vote today compared to five years ago, because we have to have locations that are secure. we

can't use locations anymore that don't have adequate phone coverage. for example, in case there's an incident i'm wondering, though, if you have concerns that we're going to see another election denial movement potentially like after we saw in 2020 and we saw so many of those threats, as you said, you even received threats in 2020 yeah, in 2020, the threats came from the left. >> we were falsely accused of voter suppression due to misinformation, and we had calls coming from new york and california threatening to kill us kill our staff and now it's coming from the right, the city knees powdery envelopes called themselves the trader elimination army. and both parties need to do a better job of calming tensions and saying violence is not okay. >> but you're election officials have the money and the resources they need right now to keep the vote safe given this threat environment that you just laid out well, fortunately, we've not seen, threats to voting locations.
8:47 am
there had been a sporadic incidents of violence over the years, but their bank robberies next door or a gas leak, things, things like that. >> not anyone threatening the voting location. we do have contingency plans in case the risk in like that. but fortunately, we've not suffer that. >> if you look at the way that these people think, if that's the word for it, or conspiracy theorists and they think that there is some shadowy cabal at the top that it's the elites not after poll workers. >> there night, even after voters thereafter, me they're after leadership because they think that we're up to something because we're the government were the elite were these stablished, whatever it is and so we've looked at our security presence. we've also encouraged our local government officials to work with with federal law law enforcement to make sure that they harden their offices do want to note that the portal for requests and absentee ballot and kentucky opened over the weekend. >> i want to know what kind of demand are you expecting for

absentee balance this cycle? >> well i think it'll be higher than normal because we have higher than normal turnout when we have the presidential election but we're 2% absentees state about one-and-a-half percent of kentucky into vote mail-in and absentee ballot were a state with the culture is voting in-person, whether it's on election day or early so i think that the absentee requests will be not a good indicator, but the turnout is going to be but do you have confidence in the us postal service that it will be able to handle the volume of absentee balance ballots that you're expecting. >> and other states across the country are expecting well, certainly from my state, i have every confidence. >> we're talking about a pretty modest percentage of the ballots. i did have a meeting along with other colleagues, secretaries last week with the postmaster general. he's listening to us. he's promised us regular consultations as we get into this oh, election

campaign. my hope is that we'll see less with the vote cast by mail compared to four years ago because the post office, they're doing their best in good faith, but they've got challenges. there reducing their infrastructure because the demand for the male has gone down significantly. so i certainly won't encourage people to vote a person to use a dropbox if you're concerned about timely delivery of your ballot all right. >> michael adam, secretary of state of kentucky. thank you so much. >> thank you well, after a grueling six months in space, a nasa astronaut is back on, arthur going to show you that dramatic touchdown up next. >> and you're the cnn newsroom were society in crisis? >> what if we turn her disagreements into discussions, conflicts, into opportunities? >> we act in a bit more so you see civility can sweeten even the most bitter conversations and insurer we know people and businesses worth when we choose
